Nelson’s thriving arts and music scene has helped to establish it as a destination for free spirits and art-lovers. Festivals, studios, galleries, craft markets… Every cranny of this South Island city seems to buzz with artistic energy. Lord of the Rings fans will flip for the Jens Hansen workshop in Trafalgar Square—Hansen is the goldsmith who designed the “precious” guarded by Frodo in the LOTR films.

Visit the home of New Zealand's best loved peanut butter. Smell our freshly roasted nuts as they tumble out of the roaster and make their way to The Peanut Squasher. See Pic's squirting into a jar that wends its way along rattling conveyors to the capping machines that automatically place and tighten Pic's famous star lids, to the labeller, a hi tech licker and placer that wraps the brown paper label around the jar. Watch as our team of white clad peanut butter makers tweak and nurse the gleaming stainless machines into making the world's finest peanut butter, load it into boxes, then wrap it on to pallets to be sent around NZ and around the world. And there's a very good cafe right in the building. Tours are at 10.00am, 11.30am and 1.30pm and the shop is open 8.00 to 4.00, and we are always happy to talk peanuts.

Specialties The One Ring - The Lord of the Rings Ring for The Hobbit Manufacturing Jeweller Diamond Engagement & Wedding Rings Platinum - Gold - SilverValuations, Repairs, & Remodelling Ready to Wear & To Order Custom & Traditional Design Gold Buyers Since 1968 the Jens Hansen Gold and Silversmith workshop in Nelson, New Zealand has been making jewellery of uncompromising beauty. Diamond engagement rings, custom design wedding jewellery, dress rings, bracelets, pendants, brooches and silverware that offer pure contemporary lines and sculptural elegance have become the trademarks of the Jens Hansen workshop. All the jewellery is handcrafted, original, precious and crafted 'to be worn'. This simple philosophy rewards us with creative pieces that we all can embrace, afford and love, and was also the reason Peter Jackson asked Jens Hansen to design and make the ring depicted on screen as The One Ring™ for his film version of J. R. R. Tolkien's famous The Lord of the Rings™books. History Established in 1968 The Jens Hansen Gold and Silversmith Workshop was borne from passion of creativity and experimentation. The first Nelson workshop, set up in 1968, was in the front room of the family home at 8 Alton Street. This quickly became a centre for the local arts community, where Jens's talent, energy, enthusiasm, and outspoken personality drew people in from all over the world, and where Jens trained, worked with and influenced many of New Zealand's leading contemporary jewellers.Meet the Business Owner: Halfdan H.Halfdan is Jens Hansen's elder son, and has been director of the store for the last five years. He is committed to continuing his father's legacy, particularly when it comes to the Movie Ring that his father Jens and brother Thorkild worked on for the original The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

The Nelson Market is famous for its longevity and high quality of its stalls. For almost 40 years, market owner Nita Knight has worked hard to create a showcase of the best that the Nelson region has to offer in arts, crafts and produce. The market is enhanced these days with a wide variety of food carts, making it a wonderful place to meet friends and share brunch or lunch while checking out the array of goods on offer at this truly iconic market.

We must have organised our visit just right as the lovely organ was being played. Lots of opportunities to stop and mediate /pray during this visit. Various memorials, including to Robert Snodgrass, Thomas Brunner and Robert Baden-Powell. A beautiful building featured on the hill at the top of Trafalgar Street.

Wow, this is a popular place. We visited over Labour Weekend. Great atmosphere with people outside on blankets on the lawn, at tables outside, under the shelter outside, or bravely inside with the 'bugs'. Service at the bar was friendly despite the big queue he offered a taste of a beer and chatted - nice when we were from out of town, much appreciated. Beer choices were very good. We managed to find a seat and enjoy the atmosphere. We shared a quesadilla with our second drinks and it was very tasty. Visited again the next night as this was such a cool place.

The 2 ladies that work here were brilliant. We were unsure about doing the Split Apple rock, as the weather had turned, through them we found out we could drive out and do a short walk, we ended up with photos just as good as those taken if you did a cruise or kayak out. Both ladies went out of their way making phone calls and googling times to see if the cruises were still running. Even found out there was a coffee cruise for those not wanting a whole day outing

If you find yourself in the area, do pay a visit to Hoglund Art Glass. Some stunning pieces and other than a few of the larger unusual items, I think the prices were very reasonable. It is not necessary to make a purchase... simply viewing is wonderful for the soul!
