Sign up was quick and easy with the helpful staff. My preference is to order books online so they can be brought in from other branches and I can pick them up in one stop. I have found a wonderful selection of Florida informational books this way and intend to continue this. The downtown facility is large and bright. Parking is easy. I also enjoy downloading the Overdrive audio books to my phone for listening while I walk. I hope they continue adding titles to their catalog through Overdrive.

Venetian Gardens Park

We were in the area for some meetings and had a couple free afternoons. We headed straight for this park. Such a delightful, restful place. There's a walkway around the bay, with bridges to some little islands, a kiddie playground, a boat launch, picnic tables, and sand volleyball courts at one end. There were families, guys fishing, people bird watching, and walkers out exercising. But it's so big that it didn't seem at all crowded. We thoroughly enjoyed the perfect weather, and the peaceful atmosphere. If we lived here we'd find a place close-by and be in this park every day.

Had a delightful morning exploring this park with some volunteers who were well versed in all of the history, wildlife and fauna and has access to the nature center. It's a level, easy walk around the entire park and there are numerous options to take shorter hikes. Not the best time of year for plant life and wildlife, but still enjoyed immensely.

Emeralda Marsh Conservation Area

Reviewed By bethlakesrob

We did the hike on AllTrails.com called Emeralda Island Drive Trail. We walked about 2.75 miles in to get to the area with the birds, but saw so much wildlife on the way. We saw a garter snake, a ringneck snake, lots of butterflies and birds, and two armadillos, and this was just before we got to the marsh. Once at the marsh we saw all the various waterfowl, alligators, and even a cottonmouth (water moccasin). Bring your camera and walk this trail. It’s open to vehicles certain times of the year but if you can do it, walk it with a camera and take it in.
