We thoroughly enjoyed our stop at Volcan Mountain Winery. Mel was a wonderful hostess. I tasted their Apple Sparkling (Champagne), Sangiovese, Petite Syrah, Old Vine Zinfandel, Malbec and Cabernet Franc (my fav) Their “Drop your Panties” blend of the Apple Sparkling (2/3) and their Apple Port (1/3) was quite a hit. So much so that we just had to bring a few bottles home to share with friends. We will definitely return!

Scenic mountain range east of San Diego.
The day was cold & clear so could see for miles. Hike was 'energetic' but do-able. Took my time and enjoyed the sunny day.

Thank you Nikko for an awesome wine tasting experience. Our visit was educational and fun. We enjoyed our tastes relaxing on the beautifully located patio overlooking the vineyard and hills. Very good wine at a reasonable cost. Highly recommend this stop.

Volcan Mountain is located in Julian, CA. In a part of the world that's been continually impacted by fires, this is a rare trek through lush oaks and conifers. The preserve is open from dawn until dusk year round. You can park your car along Farmer Road and walk about 200 feet up the gravel road to the distinctive Gateway to begin your hike. Trail maps and other information are available at the trail head. To reach the summit, it is 5.2 mile (1200 feet gain) hike along a fire road and/or the Five Oaks Trail. Great views of Julian and the Anza Borrego Desert.

Hiked over 6 miles through forested and open areas. We walked right through a cow pasture and got to see the Oreo cow. Some parts of the trail are a little steep, but so worth the views. Thank you to the rangers and volunteer who pointed out the names of plants and trees, including the poison oak! Beware. You need good hiking shoes, water and sun protection. A great day hike and it’s free. Back up the road is a turnoff, 2 miles, to The historic town of Julian. More great fun.

Small production winery offering a nice array of wines in a wonderful and charming tasting room. Pop in for a taste, glass, or bottle during your visit to Julian. Cheers!
Our second visit to the Blue Door Winery tasting room and yet again it did not disappoint… it’s up a side street in the little town of Julian and pours about six different reds along with their fresh made Sangria by the glass. We enjoyed each pour and managed to take several bottles home with us. Charming owner, Kameron, takes a lot of pride in her wines and shared her knowledge with us. A very informative and gracious host, what an enjoyable afternoon! We definitely will visit again!

We visit Julian several times a year and always call at the Julian Cider Mill to buy great snacks and a gallon of boysenberry apple cider. They sell all kinds of snacks, mostly homemade from chocolate, to honey, to syrups, to jellies,to nuts and even fresh eggs. Well worth a visit, they always have samples of cider to try. The staff are always very friendly and courteous.

This place is such a fun shop, full of fun Julian souvenirs, clothing, soaps, whatever you want. You can spend a solid half hour in there enjoying all they have to sell. Prices are fair as well. I would certainly come back. Well worth a visit.
