Toroweap Point

Acrophobes may want to avoid this overlook, on the remote part of the North Rim, which provides awesome Canyon views from sheer cliffs nearly 3,000 feet high above the Colorado River.

Reviewed By tm212 - Grimes, United States

When fires closed the access to the north rim of the Grand Canyon we were forced to get creative. This is a dirt/gravel road for 61 miles. The road gets worse the last 13 miles and ridiculous the last 3 miles. In the last 3 miles you will need a 4WD with some ground clearance. Many reviews recommend "high clearance" without saying what that mean. We drove a Toyota Highlander with a 8.1" ground clearance. We did fine with some creative driving across the boulders. Some of the reviews said that they did the drive in vehicles with as little as 5.1" of ground clearance which I wouldn't suggest. Lastly, check the weather before you go. Don't go if rain is in the forecast, When you get the restroom at the end park there if you can find a space. Just kidding, you'll likely be the only ones there. We only encountered five cars on the 122 mile round trip. Anyhow leave your vehicle by the restroom stop. If you drive down to the picnic tables you will likely bottom out. Just look at the scrapes on the rocks. This is a far different experience than the crowded South and North Rims. Of approximately 6 million annual visitors to the Grand Canyon, only about 20,000 go to Toroweap (aka Tuweap). There are no railing, only nature in it's splendor.

Shoshone Point

Not marked on any of the Grand Canyon guide maps - only comes up on Google Maps. Trailhead is a small unmarked car park. Easy 15-20 minute walk. A little muddy in parts, probably due to melted snow in February. You come to a clearing with a number of picnic tables and a toilet. There’s a point you can walk carefully to and get spectacular photos. I left my daughter on the point and walked back to the picnic tables a took some sensational photos of her. 3 other small groups were there. Enjoy the solitude. Next time I’ll take a picnic.

The Historic Navajo Bridge over the Colorado River at Marble Canyon is now a pedestrian bridge, where you can walk across this engineering feat and look at the river down below in Marble Canyon. Absolutely beautiful!

Fittingly, for our last stop on this Bright Angel Bicycle Tour is Hermit's Rest, one of four structures in Grand Canyon National Park designed by Mary Jane Coulter. There is a small gift shop and snack bar here. Our shuttle picked us up and returned to the Visitors Center from this point. This tour was one of the highlights of our visit to The Grand Canyon and is highly recommended for people of all ages.

Bright Angel History Room

Reviewed By RICART75 - Peru, United States

This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the history and people associated with the Grand Canyon; especially the iconic architect Mary Colter. The fireplace, and Lodge itself is a testament to her creativity (as are several nearby structures). One also learns about the "Harvey" girls, and their employer. Coupled with an interesting little gift shop, and accented with views of the Canyon outside it's windows; this is a wonderful little gem of a historical showcase.

Kolb Studio

Reviewed By NilsSjudin - New Jersey, United States

What a treat! My wife bought me the book, The Amazing Kolb Brothers of the Grand Canyon, and beside being an easy and interesting book to read, it prepared me for the visit to the studio and views of the Bright Angel Trail. Once the studio personnel know I had read the book, she gladly pointed out parts of the canyon that I had read about. Seeing the Kolb Brothers' photographs and then the actual sites made this a highlight of the Grand Canyon experience. Surprisingly, many tourists walked past the studio, situated along the path and on the precipice, and missed a wonderful part of the visit to the canyon.

Canyon Village Marketplace

Was surprised that a place right in the Park would be so reasonable; actually, some of the best prices on souvenirs and you know you just HAVE to buy those t-shirts for the grandkids!! Grocery store has deli, sandwiches, wine just about anything you need. Located right down from Yavapailodge so super convenient; we visited every day for one thing or another. Blue shuttle bus is right there along with a post office, public rest rooms and a huge parking lot. So glad we were so close.
