Fano [ˈfaːno] is a town and comune of the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche region of Italy. It is a beach resort 12 kilometres (7 miles) southeast of Pesaro, located where the Via Flaminia reaches the Adriatic Sea. It is the third city in the region by population after Ancona and Pesaro.

Collocata nel cuore della citta e la piazza su cui si affaccia imponente il trecentesco Palazzo del Podesta rinominato della Ragione, ora Teatro della Fortuna, la cui facciata e in stile romanico-gotico e il cui interno rifatto nell' 800 e in stile neoclassico. Un'arbitraria aggiunta ottocentesca e la classicheggiante merlatura. All'esterno domina la torre civica ricostruita dopo la guerra al posto dell'antico campanile. Attraverso il monumentale Arco Borgia-Cybo innalzato alla fine del sec. XV., dal Palazzo del Podesta si passa all'androne che conduce alla Corte Malatestiana. Sul lato occidentale della piazza c'e la Fontana della Fortuna dall'ampio bacino mistilineo a marmi colorati, interamente rinnovato nel 1697-99 dal veneziano Ludovico Torresini. La fontana e ornata con la statuetta bronzea della Dea Fortuna modellata e fusa nel 1593 dall'urbinate Donnino Ambrosi Poco lontano, sul lato meridionale della piazza, fa bella mostra di se la piccola ed elegante facciata protobarocca in cotto e pietra arenaria della Chiesa di S. Silvestro opera forse dell'architetto Filippo Terzi.
