In the Art of Silk Museum you will be guided through the exhibits in the carefully restored neoclassical building. The exhibits are in working order and the visitor will be able to get a taste of what it meant to work in the silk industry from silk reeling and processing machines to weaving with both hand and power looms. Alongside the exhibits there are videos demonstrating the various stages in the manufacture of silk from sericulture (the rearing of silkworms) to the finished product. The aim of the Art of Silk Museum is to highlight and preserve the rich tradition of silk weaving and production in the area. Original exhibits combined with the latest technology take the visitor, step by step, on a journey as unique as silk itself.

We stopped at the picturesque waterfront. A young businessman, Mr. Georgiadis, was passing out fliers. I was totally disappointed with the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul. The prices were very high and products average quality. The Alexandroupolis’ energetic businessman had a vibrant air about him. I went in his shop and came across postcards that looked like oil paintings. I have never seen postcards that appeared as oil paintings. His t-shirts were good quality with all sizes. I bought some costume jewelry and cups. Mr. Georgiadis’ inventory was the best.

This is a city oasis, a relaxing park where you can dip your feet in the water or grab a bite to eat and a drink, all while listening to the sound of a babbling stream while watching nature, direct in the heart of the city. Five walk minutes to shopping and a host of activities.

The street is closed for cars in the evening and the lighthouse area becomes the perfect place to have a stroll by the sea, to have dinner and to enjoy the breeze.

The most characteristic monument of Kavala is the large, arched aqueduct, known by the name “Kamares” (Arches), with a length of 270 m and a maximum height of 25 m. They were built in 1520-1530, a period during which many infrastructure works were carried out in Kavala, with the aim of reconstructing the city after the destruction of 1391. The Kamares are a huge structure, out of proportion to the size of the then insignificant settlement.
