National poet Robert Burns' favorite haunt.
My wife and I attended a Burns Supper at the Globe last week and we both agree that it was one of the best evenings we have ever spent in our lives. The food was Michelin star standard and the service was attentive, efficient and, above all, friendly. The entertainment was first rate and the surroundings are unique - The Globe is in a tiny wynd (alley) and is the ancient inn beloved of Robert Burns himself. You can even see lines of poetry he scratched on the windows! The interiors have been lovingly restored, with no expense spared, to make a warm and cosy place where you can enjoy fine dining or just a quiet dram at the bar. The Globe really is the best that Scotland can offer in food, drink and conviviality.

I could happily have come back several times to get around to seeing everything in this fantastic, free, museum! We had a very warm welcome, and spent a delightful few hours exploring. Everything from prehistoric to Romans, to Vikings, to victorian mill works. Wondrous artifacts and a fantastic array of historical everyday items. Don't forget to try on the dinosaur costumes or take a crayon rubbing of a fossil!

Mabie Forest, the original mountain biking venue in the south west of Scotland. Mabie lies just a few miles south of Dumfries and caters for beginners right through to the most expert of riders.
We did the longest trail which was a very varied walk. We got absolutely drenched in a downpour about 1/3 of the way round and didn't see anyone for most of the remainder of our walk. It's a nice place to visit for a walk.

Yes that is a road and it does lead to the castle! A muddy and small car park however it's quiet as the site is hard to find and has no facilities or charges. Castle Morton has a nature trail and a few information boards that are very helpful. The castle is quite substantial and is well preserved with a basic entrance and wonderful views of the large lake that surrounds it. Plenty of wildlife and great elevated views of the historic landscape.

It's unfortunate that you can't leave a review every time you eat out as we've eaten several times in this establishment since my last review and we've never been dissapointed yet. Cov'd 19 guidelines are strictly adhered too and they operate a one way system through the store and the restaurant. The quality of their food is first class along with the service and the price. Most of their products are home made and their afternoon tea for two is well worth every penny, just recommend that you go with an empty stomach as they certainly know how to feed you. Well done to James and all of his staff for doing a great job.
