The storybook city of Bydgoszcz is a stunning mélange of Gothic and Art Nouveau architecture, 18th-century granaries, cobblestone streets and outdoor cafes. Cruise the scenic Brda River, wander the charming streets of historic Old Town, or picnic and people-watch at Mill’s Island. Thoughtful public art, a thriving jazz scene, an opera house and an extraordinary concert hall add cultural dimension to Bydgoszcz’s beauty.

On the riverside of Brda River is St. Martin and St. Nicholas Cathedral. It is a Catholic church which was built in the 15th Century and has a Gothic style and serves as a parish church and cathedral of the Diocese of Bydgoszcz. It was given cathedral status by Pope John Paul II in March 2004. Inside the cathedral it is very ornate and quite captivating. The cathedral is incredibly charming and is worth seeking out whilst in Bydgoszcz.

Natural Island in the middle of the city of Bydgoszcz. Important strategic asset during the Kingdom era
Close to Mill's Island, you will find a lot of restaurants and bars, and the island itself features a little Venice and a little of green for a nice walk after or before the dinner.

The Basilica is not very far from Bydgoszcz Bus Station. I had visited the Basilica once before in winter, and had not appreciated its merits, as then it was a grey day. When I visited the Basilica in May 2012, it was on a bright sunny day. The architecture is in the Classic style, and the building is large. I liked the way the colours of the walls stood out subtly under the bright sunlight. I was also struck by the memorial to the Smolensk air crash. The next time I stay in Bydgoszcz I will make a point of visting the Basilica again, because I have not been in many buildings similar to its vast, spacious interior and the Classical style of architecture suits my tastes..

We never thought Bydgoszcz has such a nice old town, well, we never thought Bydgszcz has an old town at all, we rather associated this city with post-industrial landscape. It turns out the old town, called sometimes as location town, has a lot to offer, in terms of heritage buidings, museums, and great landscapes along the water system, which is build around Brda river. Obviously the market square, with huge Monument to Struggle and Martyrdom in Bydgoszcz (Pomnik Walki i Meczenstwa Ziemi Bydgoskiej) is the centre of it all, but I would strongly recommend a visit to Wyspa Młyńska (Mill's Island) in first place, as it seems to be the top spot, especially for live outdoor events. Many old building were refurbished recently, so it all lookes very nice indeed.

One cannot miss this after going to the main square. Your attention is drawn to the river as you walk on the bridge. You see history, a lovely character of Bydgoszcz as you stroll.

Great open space with lots of recreational fun for families with little ones. Lots of forested area with bike paths as well as a Zoo that's quite nice. If it's sunny day, this is a great escape from the city life for half a day
