It has taken me far too long to write this review, but in a way, it means more that my partner and I still remember this food tour as a stand out highlight of our time in Malaysia and Penang. (NOTE we went in Nov 2019 but I can't pick that option!) From the moment we met Danny, his passion and knowledge about Penang stood out. Such varied cultures allow Danny to craft a wonderful tour, taking in the sights, smells and tastes of the 2nd biggest city in Malaysia, whilst reminding you of its humble origins. It gave us new eyes on the town and we went back to many of the stops in the following days. Thank you Danny for loving the city in a way that you were so willing to share with us. We hope you are keeping safe in the difficult times 2020 has brought and we will be back soon! Siobhan and Stefano x

Penang is arguably one of Asia's best street food destinations. Penang food is the cuisine of the multicultural society of Penang, Malaysia. Most of these cuisine are sold at road-side stalls or pushcarts, known as “street food” or & quot;hawker food”. It offers a mix of traditional Malay, Chinese and Indian dishes, as well as fusion cuisines such as Baba Nyonya, or Peranakan, which incorporates regional ingredients and Chinese, Malay and Thai cooking methods. It is popular among locals and tourists alike. All of Penang street foods can be found in hawker centres and shop houses throughout George Town.
Inclusions: Professional experienced English speaking guide to do commentary on attractions and foods, Hotel Pick up and drop off (within George town), Air Conditioned Vehicle, fuel and Parking, All taxes and service charges, Fuel surcharge
Exclusions: Food and drinks, Personal expenses

There is something special about being welcomed into someone's home and treated instantly like friends. This was our experience with the super fab mother and daughter team, Ruth and Ranita. As a holiday present for my sister-in-law, we wanted an intimate and fun experience. AND our expectations were exceeded, for sure. We not only learned some great recipes and culinary techniques, we also learned much about the history and culture of Malaysia and the surrounding area. And the group activity really was SO fun with everyone creating their own special creations/variations and nuanced interpretation of the meal. We hope connect again with them and WithLocals as these types of experiences are really great during this time when our travels have been blunted due to the pandemic!

Do yourself a big foodie favour and make time to do this walking tour around the streets of Penang with Danny. We went at night but day tours are also available. Our personal recommendation would be to do it early in your stay so then you get the chance to go back and revisit places and it also gives you the chance to search out other places that might appeal to you. Really worthwhile and cost friendly. Jennie & Chris

We had such a great time on this tour. Picked up from hotel lobby by our guide Kingston and then introduced to our riders Dass and Azmi. After a short safety brief we hopped on board for our amazing trip. We stopped at so many places it’s hard to recall them all. We ate at a Chinese food market where you would be pushed to find any other tourists, a great Indian restaurant and a fantastic Malay restaurant to sample the famous Nasi Lemak. There were other photo stops along the way and a visit to a night food market where we sampled some of the local fruits. One of our particular highlights was Ghost Street, a place steeped in history from the first Chinese settlers to arrive in KL. Kingston is such a knowledgable man about everything “Malaysia” and is the perfect host. Our riders were great fun too, pointing out interesting landmarks along the way. We had so much fun zipping in and out of the traffic. The classic Vespa scooters made this trip so much fun and were real head turners wherever we went! We had less than 48hrs in KL but thanks to this trip we feel like we’ve seen and experienced so much.
