So many of Madrid’s buildings look like castles, you’ll think you’ve stumbled into a fairytale. Even City Hall is astounding, with its white pinnacles and neo-Gothic features. A self-guided architecture tour can begin by the great bear statue in the central Puerta del Sol. Wander by the fanciful Royal Palace before absorbing the natural beauty of Retiro Park, then visit one of the city’s many museums. You could happily cap off each day by nibbling on forkfuls of paella while sipping Spanish rioja.

This tour has a twist: it is a night tour, which means you´ll get to know the true life of "madrileños", since "going out" culture here makes up a big part of their daily routine. Madrid´s streets are often busier late at night then during a day, and bars and taverns stay top socializing scenes, where you can easily strike a casual conversation with a stranger. You will be stopping at four to five different places, you will taste and visit a variety of places from old to new, you will get to experience the know-how of traditional eateries, modern gastrobars and taverns. You will learn to distinguish between tapas, pintxos, platos, platillos and raciones, will see, taste and participate in the daily life of the capital, will explore different neighborhoods and feel the contagious buzz of the night city.
Inclusions: Professional local private guide, Private walking tour with cultural and historical insights, Up to 5 stops to try traditional dishes in different places, including tapas, Various tastings including wine, beer, cider, or vermouth, Fares on public transportation if required, Meeting at the hotel

The Prado has innumerable gems which are best appreciated through the lens of the extremely interesting but convoluted history of Spain. Marta was the perfect guide, refreshingly buoyant and infinitely knowledgeable about the art and history. You'll start with Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights and move on to the wonderful collection of Velazquez and eventually end with great insights into Goya's profound contributions. A private guide may be pricey for one or two, but you avoid the lines and dig effortlessly through the crowds. Definitely worth it and highly rated.

I'd rank this as one of my top three tour experiences ever. Jorge, the tour guide, is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, caring, and kind. His main goal is to make certain that each one of his tour guests enjoys his/her experience, and he certainly goes out of his way to make this happen. During the tour you will visit 6 of Madrid's "secret" food and beverage establishments and have something to eact and drink in each one of them. By the time the tour is over, you will not be hungry, that is for sure - so don't plan on having lunch the day of your tour. This will be lunch - and more! Jorge does not rush his guests at any one of the 6 stops. There was plenty of time to eat, drink, converse, and to learn from Jorge much about the history and charm of his beloved city. There isn't another foodie tour in Madrid which can compare in quality or level of enjoyment. I feel certain that you will enjoy the experience as much as I did. In fact, next time I am in Madrid, I will book the same exact tour with the same exact tour guide - and I know I will enjoy it just as much as the first time. That's saying a lot!

We have always loved eating empanadas in Spain, especially those in Galicia, so it was thrilling to learn how to make them under the skilled instruction of Arantxa. She showed us exactly how to make an empanada, from the dough to the filling, while also discussing the interesting history of this classic Spanish food. A week later, I made my first empanada at home according to Arantxa's recipe. It was delicious and I can't wait to make another. It is going to become part of my regular rotation, as there is so much variety of what you can stuff the dough with. I recommend any cooking class with Arantxa. Even on Zoom, which is not easy, she was a very engaging teacher.
