Top 10 Food & Drink in Yorkshire, England

April 9, 2022 Franklyn Hardiman

Yorkshire (/ˈjɔːrkʃər, -ʃɪər/; abbreviated Yorks), formally known as the County of York, is a historic county of Northern England and the largest in the United Kingdom. Due to its great size in comparison to other English counties, functions have been undertaken over time by its subdivisions, which have also been subject to periodic reform. Throughout these changes, Yorkshire has continued to be recognised as a geographical territory and cultural region. The name is familiar and well understood across the United Kingdom and is in common use in the media and the military, and also features in the titles of current areas of civil administration such as North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire.

Had a great afternoon learning all about my favourite gin with Joe. He explained the history, processes and gave us a great tour of the distillery all whilst letting us taste all the gin. Then we got to go to gin school and make our own gin. It was a really fun experience and great to see how quickly you can distill and try the gin to see if you've got a nice flavour - plus the gin I made is great! We left with bottles of gin to give away as gifts but ended up keeping for ourselves in the end as they were too nice. As an added bonus, we got engaged just before the tour so now will always associate Sir Robin gin with happy memories and will definitely have to get some for the wedding!

Theakston Brewery

T&R Theakston Ltd is one of the oldest family breweries in Yorkshire and home of the legendary Old Peculier Ale. Visit this historical brewery in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales town of Masham. Experience first hand the craft and skill that goes into brewing our beers, the brewing process is built on almost two centuries of tradition, passed down through five generations of the Theakston family.2013 is a very special year as not only are we celebrating the 186th year of our company's foundation in 1827,but also ten years since we bought the brewery back from Scottish Courage and once again became a family owned independent brewery. Have a pint of our legendary beer in the Brewery Tap - The Black Bull in Paradise, names after the original inn, the Black Bull, where Robert Theakston first brewed our legendary ale and also the site where our brewery stands, once known as Paradise Fields. We always have six differnent Theakston Ales available on tap including our famous Old Peculier served from wooden casks. There is plenty to do and see including the Cooper’s shop where the cooper crafts the wooden barrels – one of the last remaining working cooperages in the country. Leave plenty of time to browse the gift shop full of ‘Peculier’ souvenirs and other Yorkshire delights.
