My daughter and I take cooking classes wherever we travel. We spent a wonderful day learning to cook traditional Bengali dishes and enjoying our meal with our hosts Mr. and Mrs. Dhar. They are gracious and kind hosts with a lovely home. We highly recommend it--a very special day and a great way to end our Kolkata adventure.

Bengali cuisine is a regional Indian cuisine. In the home of our Bengali teacher you not only learn to cook Bengali dishes in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere but to talk to a Bengali woman about what life is like for her in modern day Kolkata. Use the opportunity to explore the food but also the culture. You may also opt for a visit to the local market as well. Our teacher also runs her own village garden cooking class out of the city. You can be escorted to the city classes by public transport or in your own car for most months of the year or make your way there on your own. We will arrange the booking and organize with you the class time. The maximum class membership is usually 3 people at a time and we have a number of choices as to the nature of the menu, (all vegetarian or some non veg dishes as well) and a choice of menus. Email is by far the best way to contact and our teacher generally needs at least 2 days notice. We hope you join us during your stay in our city. Namaska.
