Abbaye Sainte Marie de Pierredon

Respect for history, the environment, the land its fruits run through everything that is done on the property, from the improvement of the parcels for planting to the bottling of the wine. Any estate is characterized by its soil and its climate. Human expertise adapts to these changing variables. It is a question of pulling together local traditions, the specificities of the Pierredon soil and innovations that make it possible to improve quality. In tribute to the monks who lived here for centuries, the wines of the Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Pierredon are named after the rites which that structured their days, from dawn till dusk: Prima Luce (first light of the dawn), Ultima Laude (last prayer in the evening)...

Wednesday morning market

Reviewed By cce543 - Ballarat, Australia

Every Wednesday morning Saint-Remy-de-Provence transforms to a bustling market. You can buy everything here- fresh fruit & vegetables, cheeses of every variety, meats -cured & fresh, breads & pastries, antipasto products, nougat & sweets, clothes, hats, knives, home wares, knick knacks, almost everything. We bought the most delicious cherries & cantaloupe we had in our time in France here. Warning, it gets very busy, so go early!

Chateau Romanin

Last massif before the Mediterranean Sea, the Alpilles are lighted up with thousands of glints. On its northern side, between Saint- Rémy-de-Provence and Eygalières, nature has fortuitously drawn a triumphant "V". A geological breach that creates a dynamic and exceptional relief. Perhaps you might behold the gliders' serene ballet above the ruins of a 13th century castle. You have just arrived, indeed, at Château Romanin. In the middle of the mythical and historic Provence, discover a majestic and unique vineyard, cultivated according to the rhythm of nature and biodynamic methods. Embodied by an ancient castle and a modern cellar, Château Romanin is protected and magnified by a real underground cathedral carved out of rock. Wine & olive oil tasting and sale at the cellar. Guided tour by appointment.

We had a bottle of Chateau Romanin from the cave of the two star Michelin restaurant Oustau Baumaniere and knew we had to visit! Superb location high in the Alpilles with the cave built into the side of the mountain, near the castle ruins. Great personalized service. Shipped home two cases.
