Much of northern Spain belongs to Castile-Leon, an autonomous region surrounded by mountains. Architectural gems like the Romanesque stonework of Segovia's city walls, the Gothic Burgos Cathedral and the dramatic Baroque square in Salamanca are complemented by the area's natural beauty. Parque Natural de las Hoces del Rio Duraton is marked with deep gorges and shelters many birds of prey, while Parque Natural del Lago de Sanabria y alrededores contains the largest glacier lagoon on the Iberian Peninsula.

this is a hostal and a hotel-the hotel side was spotless with lovely rooms and with aircon-the proprietor was really friendly as were all the staff including his brother and mother-there was an excellent menu del dia on offer which was much appreciated after a long hike from Hontanas

Impecable service, cleanliness and charm. Felix the owner gave us a great overview of the place and area. Felix the owner greeted us, gave us an overview of Peñafiel, recommended activities for us and had a binder full of information ready for us. Best of all, Felix had stocked the fridge with Water, Orange Juice, jamón serrano, cheese, regular ham, bread, coffee and Magdalenas for our consumption. The service was extraordinary.

BEWARE!!! This place is not at all what it appears to be. DO NOT FALL FOR IT!! I was looking for a hotel in Valladolid, and most places were booked. This hotel came up as being listed in Valladolid, and was rated well. In reality, however, it is nowhere even close to Valladolid. Rather it is a 40 minute drive away!! Unfortunately, I realized this too late - only when I started driving and the cancelation date had passed. Based on the reviews, however, I thought that it would at least be a quaint place in the countryside where I could relax. DO NOT BE FOOLED! There is very little about it that is quaint, and it is located in a very poor, mostly abandoned town with no charm at all. As for the hotel itself, I will admit that it was at least clean, however, there is not much more positive that I can say about it. The elderly hostess was friendly, but a bit strange, and very hard to understand (including for my traveling companion, who speaks native Spanish). The internet did not work at all (and she had no idea how to fix it), and the house was so old that the floorboards made a racket any time someone walked around (and so I was awoken by another guest going to the bathroom at 4am). To add insult to injury, it is hard to describe just how bad the breakfast was. The only word that seems appropriate is insulting. It consisted of stale, store bought cookies, and off-brand ones at that. (See the picture of the pantry, where the hostess returned the uneaten goods!) In short, STAY VERY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!

Just 30 minutes from the Villanubia-Valladolid Airport El Encuentro is an old house situated in Villalon de Campos, in the very heart of the Tierra de Campos and renovated in the year 2004. The whole structure of the building is made of wood and adobe, the materials which are characteristic of the authentic ecological architecture. In its restoration we have aimed to preserve as much as possible the traditional architecture of the area. The decoration aims to offer total comfort. The whole house has open wooden beams, giving it an especially warm and cosy atmosphere. Situated in the old part of Villalon de Campos, a small village which today still preserves its rural feeling and possesses an interesting historical and artistic heritage, with its three Churches, a magnificent Main Square and ancient stone monument. Close by, we find Medina de Rioseco, the Nava and Villafaflila Lagoons and the Canal of Castile. Good to visit Valladolid, Palencia , León and Zamora. Send a mail or call us

Surpassed our expectations after eating basic many 'pilgrim menus'. Sumptuous and delightful meal with excellent varied choices... Russian salad was excellent starter - well presented and great taste. The hake with fresh asparagus main was a taste sensation. The desert to finish - a lemon mouse was outstanding... with outstanding wine! I could not have expected beter at a top class restaurant. And only 15euros a head!! Gemma and Lionel were very engaging hosts... outstanding service. Would highly recommend.

Centennial farmhouse restored into a new holiday cottage. It includes traditional architectural features such as vaulted ceilings, wooden beams, stone restoration of existing iron locksmiths, terracotta floors, woodwork, etc. The property has 6 double rooms with private bathroom, and terrace (most of them). Functional and modern decor that combines the taste of authenticity with a modern touch. All rooms are different from each other to enhance the homey feeling in contrast with a hotel coldness and rationality. In autumn, various dishes made with mushrooms and chanterelles. Lunches and dinners to order. Iberian and delicatessen products based "tapas".

Duquesa de la Conquista was established in June 2012 for short and long term accommodations. It is a friendly house were you can meet people from all over the world, and the guest can sleep in a private room. The house provides 4 rooms (private), 2 of them with private bathroom, and the other 2 with a shared bathroom. There is a full equipped kitchen, dining-room and living room. In the living-room you can play with a variety of table games, watch tv, dvd or listed to music. There is as well a little library. Breakfast is available. Activities: cultural routes, sightseeing, sports. Children can ride our pony "Paulina" and visit our farm with rabbits and chicks. When you come, you will not want to leave.
