Yoshkar-Ola (Russian: Йошка́р-Ола́; Mari: Йошкар-Ола) is the capital city of the Mari El Republic, Russia. Its population is about a quarter million. Yoshkar-Ola means red city in Mari and was formerly known as Tsaryovokokshaysk (Царёвококшайск) before 1919, as Krasnokokshaysk (Краснококшайск) between 1919 and 1927 (both after the Malaya Kokshaga River, which runs through the city) and Charla (Чарла) (old Mari). Yoshkar-Ola was established as a military fortress in 1584, following the Russian conquest of the Mari region.

We arrived for Dinner twice now on International Women's Day.The food has always been well prepared in a unique fashion, complimentary bread and 2 glasses of champagne were available on this date. There was also live entertainment with a violinist that was quite good,playing classical Russian music.We both had poached salmon and Greek salad, Both were very tasty and well priced. I'm an American living in Yoshkar-Ola and stumbled upon this restaurant while out for a stroll with my wife. I am a lover of Mexican food. The decorations are authentic and interesting just like the ones in Mexico and Texas. The Mexican food choices are small in comparison but will give you a good taste of Mexican cuisine. We were the only patrons in attendance at that time. The waiter was cordial and served us well. We had fajitas and salad which was done to perfection. Prices are normal for this city and we shall return for dinner sometime. I noticed they serve RibEye steak my favorite!

It is a lovely place with a nice atmosphere. I spent the last evening on the terrace with my friends. I was charmed by these warm lights on ceilings. Even late at the evening we staid warm as the staff provided blankets for everyone. I ordered a great burger and I liked its juicy beef patty and potatoes on its side. I really enjoyed my evening there. I recommend to try my favorite sea-buckthorn tea with honey. It was a big surprise for me that this place is pets-friendly and they have a cat there. It feels like home.

This is a great place with the atmospheric interior of an old good pub. There you can find a great choice of meals, beer and desserts. There you can meet with your friends to spend a great time together watching live sport events or listening to a live band. This place has a small beer shop with uncooked food beside of the restaurant. I should suggest to try a delicious borshch.

My wife Iren and I visited Kamelot on Valentines Day 2015. We both had Caesar salads with king Shrimp and Shashlik, one of my faves. Both were impeccably prepared and served. I will certainly visit here again on Man's Day and possibly Women's Day. The meal for 2 cost less than $50 Cdn which was more than reasonable. Great atmosphere and service too. Yesterday my family and I visited Tyoplaya Rechka for dinner and we were so so so impressed! Interesting local Mari cuisine, traditional Russian and European dishes, very welcoming staff that's ready to go above and beyond! They didn't have the wine my mom wanted, but the waiter brought another bottle and kindly explained why this choice would be good too. Since one of our guests didn't speak Russian, the waiter was amazing by communicating with him, making sure he had everything from ice in his drink to proper cutlery. Very few restaurants in yoshkar-ola have English speaking waiters and that's definitely made our dining experience unforgettable! I recommend this location to everyone visiting Yoshkar-Ola: its a wonderful place to get to know Mari and Russian cuisine as well as enjoy wonderful service, quiet and cozy atmosphere for reasonable prices. 5+!
