We were in Volterra on a rainy evening looking for somewhere new to try (we have eaten in many restaurants in Volterra). This place appeared very busy, with locals, so we nipped inside to try it.It really was a mistake from the word go.We were passed menus and I asked to see a wine list. The waiter said 'we don't have a wine list, we have just three wines by the bottle ... he showed us the first and said it was 25 euros a bottle ( a Bellagotti Porsano.. I was suprised they were asking that much and I didn't wish to spend 25 euros on a bottle of wine to have with a Pizza), then a Chianti at 20... and he said they had another at 18. I asked to see the one they had at 18... another guy came back and said they didn't have any more of the 18 euro wine, but that I could have the 25 Euro wine (pointing at the Chianti the other waiter told us was 20) for 18.We accepted it and ordered a starter & Pizzas. The starter arrived... it was just ghastly. It was as if someone had chopped a bit of sausage with some melted cheese/mayonnaise mix onto bits of toast. I was going to say I'm sure it came out of a jar, however I think it would have been better had it come out of a jar.The Pizzas arrived, they were just tasteless. And the 20 Euro wine was dreadful (for that price). When I looked at the back to see what grapes were in it ... '90% Sangiovese, 10% other'... it was clearly wine bottled by a cooperative/consortium. It should have been less that 10/bottle.We really just couldn't understand how the restaurant was busy... with locals! We did note that they were all drinking the local wine in a carafe which we probably wouldn't have been dissapointed in at 5 Euros / 500ml. My guess is they spotted we were tourists (we did speak Italian throughout) and made the price of the wine up on the spot.I saw the Porsano wine available in a bar the next day for 10 Euros/bottle.It's also worth noting that we were in an excellent bar just up the road beforehand where you could buy a SuperTuscan for 27/bottle!Sometime one thinks 'I must try somewhere new'.... then after trying you think "I wished I'd gone to one of the places we know and love'!

âIl Brachettoneâ is a typical Tuscan restaurant in Volterra where you can dine on a spacious terrace and enjoy a spectacular panoramic view. The culinary tradition of this region is wide, varied and delicious, and our restaurant in Italy offers exceptiona
I visitied this restaurant with a friend last summer. It was amazing! The food was excellent and the service first rate and very friendly. Reinterpretation of local dishes with great flair. Traditional Italian meat dishes cater to seafood shunners, too! Great choice of wine, also by the glass. Amazing views of the sunset from the terrace over the Val Cecina Valley. A must if you visit Volterra!Dear Sfeeeli, many thanks for your visit at "Il Brachettone" and for your kind review, it has been an honor for us serving you.Waiting for your welcome return, kindly accept our "tasty" greetings...Lara

We had a perfect window, right by the open window. We initially took cover here as we were hit by an intense rain storm and were welcomed warmly...another restaurant kicked us out as they were too busy...with only half the tables full.We loved watching the rain roll in and feel the breeze on our faces. The table by the window is the best.We wanted a lighter lunch but when we saw a truffle gnocchi on the menu, we change our mind and went for it. We also had their Margarita pizza (which was super affordable - like 6Euro only). The gnocchi was heaven. Pillowy and rich. We shared it with the group as it is very rich dish...but so worth it!

We had an absolutely delicious dinner here! The restaurant is very close to Volterra and it is definitely worth the short drive (which is actually a very scenic route, as well!) We had various seafood appetizers to start, accompanied by their focaccia, which is a must! The dishes were just delicious! The pasta, if possibile, was even better - delicious mixed seafood sauce with fresh pasta and then a tasting of ravioli with asparagus cream and shrimp, topped by truffle shavings - amazing!! The staff is also really nice and friendly. This place is a must, can't wait to be back!!

So not thinking through well enough we ended up driving to Volterra one of these long weekends when Italians love to go and enjoy there own magnificent attractions such as this beautiful little etruscan town. Queing up for parking, people everywhere but in good spirit. So knowing from experience we decided to grab a lunch place just before 1 pm not risking everything is full. 15 minutes all restaurants are crowded. Ombra della Serra just a mid range place in one of the busiest streets. They could get good business just by location. But ambitions in kitchen is quite high, and the staff is so nice despite the rush. It is admirable to keep the standard, not becoming a tourist trap.

Had the lasagne, good value and very filling after along day out. Girlfriend had the house white, very fruity and well recommended enough to drink half a litre of it. Lovely bread basket too. Thank's so much for tasting the lasagne in our house :-) hope to see you next

Wish we had found this earlier during our stay. Anything we saw on the various tables and our own choice was tasty and very well made. The cold cuts are great, Lasagne perfect, Tiramisu as well. Even simple Bruschetta with Tartufo was a new experience. Recommended. Nice decoration under the roof.
