OK, we are English but spend half our time at a second home in the Vosges. The sot l'y laisse is one of our favourite lunch spots, and many locals clearly think the same: the restaurant is usually full by 1pm, so worth reserving. The multilingual patrons, one small and jolly, one larger and just as jolly, are right on top of their jobs, attentive without being obtrusive, adept at creating the buzz that a succesful restaurant should have. The two dining rooms are well kept and attractively decorated. The two course menu of the day is supplemented by a menu of the week (slightly more expensive) and specials (more again) as well as the carte. We notice many locals have a special (15-20 euros) and then go back to work. A two course menu and a dessert will be enough for the heartiest appetite - faint hearts beware! Be aware, too, that the bill rises steeply from menu of the day level to the total if you have a special and a dessert with aperitif, wine, coffee....The wine list (again with specials) has a mix of Alsace and wine from further afield chosen by someone with a good palate..This is not rosetted fine dining, but absolutely none the worse for that. Horses for courses, and all that!

Alsacian Restaurant
We had a great dinner here. Very friendly staff, homely decorations and really good value for money! Our hotel was in Turckheim, so it was really nice to have such a nice restaurant within walking distance. Would return & recommend!

Thierry is a very talented chef who runs the kitchen of the hotel restaurant "A l'Agneau" A selection of Alsatian traditional dishes with a personal interpretation of the chef & spices of love. We enjoyed wonderful dinners. It is important to book in advance!

Went here for lunch on a bank holiday Thursday. Service was great, main courses came out quickly and were very tasty, had to wait a bit for the desserts, but it was a pleasant place to wait! Would go again!

The food in the restaurant was OK, but not better than in the neighboring restaurants. However, service was bad. The waitress did not treat us nicely. At first she moved us from one table to another, claiming that the table we had is supposed to be attached to another table for a group of four. Of course no such group visited and the table was given to another couple. We found that to becquite rude. Then, she served all other tables, including all those that arrived after us and only then served us. That wasn't nice either.we got the feeling that we were not really wanted there, maybe because we were speaking English and not french or German.we definitely do not intend to return to that restaurant, especially that there is a better alternative just 20 meters away.

Restaurant Taverne Alsacienne was recommended by a friend and approved by a local wine maker. We had le Menu Gourmand with a lovely salmon starter that tasted so light and fresh. It was accompanied by the most beautiful tiny autumn vegetables. The main course was an elegant and delicious cod. We also ordered the Menu Regional which came with various sausages and hams along with potato and sauerkraut. It was our first night in Alsace and I wanted to be sure to try authentic food but my recommendation is the do that elsewhere. My plate was delicious but the other choices on the menu here are simply too good to miss. The service was excellent. The restaurant was warm and welcoming. The wine list was phenomenal.merci beaucoup et au plaisir de vous revoir

I had the cordon bleu de veau. It was not tender and very thick. Wasnât pleasant to eat. The spätzle was under seasoned. Had a very boring side salad with it. I had a plum and vanilla ice cream sundae which was just okay. My husband enjoyed his faux fillet and spätzle, he had creme brûlée for dessert which he also enjoyed. But overall we agreed it was an average meal and nothing special.

Two of us ate here c8pm, Saturday. Topside of beef and rack of lamb both delicious. Staff seemed rushed off their feet but waitress still pleasant and calm and remembered everything without writing anything down at the table. Arrive early for a table outside. We would certainly return.

We waited patiently for a Wednesday, when the restaurant re-opens, and booked for dinner. We were rewarded with a wonderful evening.Decor and service are both very pleasant, and enhance the experience - but the food is the star. We both opted for a 30e set menu which looked a little lighter than some (we've been to Alsace before!). And indeed all three courses were notable for their delicacy - while certainly not leaving us unsatisfied!First, an amuse bouche - along the same lines as our starter in fact. When the latter arrived, we knew we were in for a treat. Tomatoes lightly poached and filled with a mozzarella mousse looked good: the special touch was the amazing tomato water poured at the table from a tiny teapot. Such depth of flavour! After that came a fillet of bream with minted peas, squash puree and mousse of rice. Delicious, although for me the rice mousse could have had a bit more substance. Finally a sort of mille feuille with strawberries and a fabulous strawberry sorbet.Presentation was lovely, and all the flavours excellent. And at this price (plus some very nice wine, of course), a real bargain.Pity we were moving on the following day, otherwise we'd have been back to sample a different menu. Ah well, next time....

Whilst the food we had here was perfectly adequate, our evening was completely ruined by the dreadful service and poor attitude shown by the waiting staff. We sat down and ordered at 7.20 and by 9.00, having had our starters, were still waiting for our main courses. When they finally came I expressed (politely) our dissatisfaction, but again we ended up waiting to have those plates cleared away and the offer of dessert. By this time it was too late and I eventually managed to catch the eye of the waitress who offered no apology and was really quite rude in her manner, She said they were busy (which they weren't), but in my experience and opinion, restaurants shouldn't have more covers than they can cope with, and should certainly be more polite when customers are understandably frustrated. The table next to us were having similar issues, and they also left without ordering dessert or more drinks.
