Reviews on European food in Tournai, Hainaut Province, Belgium. Tournai is a charming small town near France that begs to be discovered. With more than 2,000 years of history, Tournai’s roots began as a market town (Tornacum) near the crossroads of a Roman road. Today, the sprawling municipality includes more than 1,000 kilometres of signposts, with guidance from “Rambling Cards,” allowing Tournai to be explored on foot, by bike or on horseback. Here an old chapel, there a castle or an old farm – there’s so much to see in Tournai that you’ll soon realize you’ve been exploring for hours. Must-see attractions include Notre Dame Cathedral in Tournai, The Belfry, Museum of Fine Arts, the Castle of Beloeil, and the Museum of Tapestry and Textile Arts.

Major find literally next door to the cathedral in Tournai. Very intimate setting but not cramped or crowded inside. Excellent food and all made from scratch. They easily accomodated our being vegetarians by modifying meals. Meat eaters around us in the restaurant seemed equally pleased by their selections. Highly recommended.

We were in Tournai on the night that Belgium were playing France in the World Cup semi-final, and not surprisingly most of the restaurants were dominated by large TV screens showing the game. As we'd driven almost 1000 kms that day, we weren't so keen on watching, so we found this place, which we can strongly recommend. The food was wonderful, very well prepared and cooked, tasty (some of the best Greek food we have had, even including in Greece) and the wine was good too. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was good (quiet for obvious reasons, but clearly a number of people not so interested in football had come to the same conclusions as we did that this was a good place to escape). I'd highly recommend it.Thanks you for your post and we hope to see you soon in our restaurant, with or without football

One of the best restaurants we experienced in three weeks of Europe. Great ambiance, marionettes hanging from ceiling. Food and service excellent. Prices surprisingly reasonable. Recommend the shrimp croquets. Escargot needed more garlic or something. A favorite with locals and we had a nice visit with the couple at the next table.

This was a nice surprise. Three courses for â¬35 and a last minute reservation on a Sunday night. Nice and busy, good choices, very pleasant staff. Food excellent and very well prepared and presented. They also have a good selection of 'finer' wines with small markup so you can try something more interesting. What a damn good idea! One small criticism was with the kangaroo, which whilst very tasty, would have been better (in my opinion) with more of a contrasting sauce, as it is quite gamey and the mushroom sauce was also very earthy and as such there was little contrast. Overall though, very good indeed.

Family lunch here today. Savoury madeleine amuse-bouche. Excellent starters of tuna done three different ways. Beautifully cooked rouget with pissaladière. Cherry dessert with bavarois. Well-chosen wines to accompany each course... Good service in a classy setting.... Wonderful.

Exceptionally good food, the steak and chips were lovely with the speciality sugar pudding (which was recommended by the owner) equally as good. The homemade chips were extra special! The owners were very hospitable and talked to us about the menu. The owner spoke some English but enough for us to get by.
