Reviews on European food in South Ayrshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. The village of Alloway is home to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and the Robert Burns Heritage Trail. Highlights of the trail include Auld Kirk Alloway, Burns Cottage, Burns Monument Gardens and the 13th century Brig O'Doon. South of Alloway along the attractive A719 coastal road is Culzean Castle and Country Park which offers much of interest all ages. En route is an unusual roadside attraction called Electric Brae, a 'magnetic hill' where a car left out of gear will appear to go uphill due to an optical illusion. A few minutes drive from Culzean Castle is the famous Open Golf championship course at Turnberry where the clubhouse is open to the public.

Iconic hotel with great sea views.Immaculately maintained. Excellent greeting on arrival and escorted to table. Friendly, welcoming staff. We both considered that the starters on offer were the star. Plenty of choice if you haven't a fish allergy. Rather disappointed in the choice of mains. Sadly the beef bourguignon lacked texture and flavour and like some of the vegetables on the buffet it was not maintained at a high enough temperature. Reasonable selection of sweets and excellent selection of cheeses. Went for good old Scottish tap water at the table as we were driving. Having stayed overnight twice previously we were well aware that the wine and spirits are at premium prices.Dear 50Ecosse,Thank you so much for taking the time to send us your feedback following your most recent visit to 1906 at Turnberry.Your feedback is greatly appreciated as it allows us to monitor the level of service we deliver and helps identify any areas which may require our attention, as well as create an opportunity to reward and recognise our team here at Turnberry.I was pleased to read that you had an enjoyable experience during your time amongst us and that the staff played a role in this. We will also take on board your comments regarding the main curse selection on offer. Once again thank for choosing to stay at the resort and for reaching out to us and allowing me the opportunity to respond. We look forward to welcoming you back sometime in the near future.Yours sincerely,Shalane

4 star Country House Hotel providing excellent Scottish hospitality. Opposite Royal Troon Golf Course. 3 miles from Prestwick International Airport. 40 minutes from Glasgow city centre.
If a waiter or waitress tells you â take care the plates are really hotâ , what is your assumption ?Two steaks in our party were :Not cooked to the preference Inedible My wife and I had microwaved pasta, gold on the top, white underneath. If you want to book this place for food, ask if there they are catering for a wedding at the same time.Wonât be back, my stomach deserves better.Dear MannyPee,Thank you for your review. I am disappointed to read most of your negative reviews seem to be based on Troon. We operate 2 kitchens, 1 for the weddings and 1 for the other 2 restaurants. A wedding doesn't affect the operation of the main kitchen. Your table was quality checked and no comment was made about any concerns.I feel this review is excessive and not a true reflection of the hotel. We would ask anyone reading this review to please check the other reviews without prejudice and make up their own mind.Yours sincerely,Karel KuhlerManaging Director

Outstanding value for money.I cannot think of another restaurant that can come anywhere near the quality and choice at this price. In fact, ignore the price because you could pay twice as much and have much poorer fare! Please, do yourself a favour and treat your taste buds to this outstanding food.I canât rate it highly enough.

We stopped here for lunch after visiting the Burns centre and had a very enjoyable Sunday roast. My wife enjoyed the lamb and I greatly enjoyed the roast lion of pork.Everything was cooked and presented well with plenty of flavour as you would expect. Wine list was reasonable. Service professional and attentive.Tables are in the bar area...would have been great to sit outside of the weather had been more favourable.

Fine dining restaurant using local produce sourced fresh and seasonal with private dinning area available for functions and a unique decorated public restaurant.
Had a wonderful dinner here, standard of cuisine was WAY beyond our expectations! You can get everything from classic pub-grub and a great childrenâs menu to excellent steaks and a high standard of cuisine including duck and red snapper. The menu choices change regularly.

Warm, inviting, relaxed and personal dining.
We have stumbled upon this great little restaurant. Iâve had breakfast which was made to order, lunch and now dinner. The service is good. Ambience nice. The food excellent!!! I had asked again for something not on the menu, they actually met my request and delivered my favourite pud, macaroons... delicious, thank you! It was busy with two large groups but this did not impact on the service or quality of our experience. It is rare to feel totally one hundred percent happy after a meal. My standards are reasonably high but I get sick of poor service and mediocre food when I know I can present a meal at a better standard, for a fraction of the cost. This restaurant is certainly achieving everything I require and I can recommend it highly. The monkfish starter was just delicious. My husbands steak was cooked, as he likes to perfection, melting in his mouth.

Attended with friends for lunch. Canât really fault the food. Portion sizes not great but taste and presentation was good. Found the establishment itself very claustrophobic, small, and very noisy. Could hear everyoneâs conversation around you. Would be a very frustrating place if you wanted to go and chill out with a coffee and read the paper.....unless there was no one else in.

Visited Auld Acquaintance in Girvan partly due to the positive reviews on Trip Advisor, which bore no resemblance to the establishment we visited. The place itself wasdefinitely appropriate to its title - auld (old), tatty and looked uncared for; however, once inside, we decided to give it a go as often appearances can be deceptive. I ordered a tuna & feta pizza and my friend ordered roasted Mediterranean vegetable pizza. We waited ages for the food to arrive, despite the fact there was hardly anyone in the place and when the food eventually arrived we were both flabbergasted. Both pizzas were made with ready made pizza bases, smothered in what appeared to be tomato puree instead of pizza sauce and my pizza was smothered in what I can only presume to be tuna savoury, the type used for sandwich fillings, instead of just tuna with lumps of melted cheddar and a tiny amount of feta on top. It actually looked as if a dog had thrown up on top of a pizza base. My friend's roasted med veg pizza wasn't much better and both were served on plastic plates! My supposed tuna & feta pizza was cold, so I asked for it to be warmed up, whereby the waitress took it away & then the 'chef' appeared & explained that it couldn't be reheated due to the presence of mayonnaise, reinforcing my suspicion that it was sandwich filling on the pizza instead of just tuna & feta. The food was so awful we ate only a couple of pieces, paid and then left. I wouldn't mind but the food there isn't cheap; £8.99 for a 9 inch pizza which frankly wasn't as nice as a chesp frozen pizza from Asda. The food was absolutely horrible and the place bore absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to the establishment described or depicted on Trip Advisor, therefore I'd recommend that everyone gives this place the widest berth possible and go elsewhere.
