Shymkent (Kazakh: Shymkent, شىمكەنت, known until 1993 as Chimkent (Uzbek: Чимкент, چىمكېنت; Russian: Чимкент, Čimkent), is the capital city of South Kazakhstan Region, the most densely populated region in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is the third most populous city in Kazakhstan behind Almaty and Astana with an estimated population of 669,326 in 2015. A major railroad junction on the Turkestan-Siberia Railway, the city is also a notable cultural centre, with an international airport. Shymkent is situated 690 kilometres (430 mi) west of Almaty and 120 kilometres (75 mi) to the north of Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

We stopped in for a late coffee recently. There are several locations in Shymkent and the cafes are a local hangout and tend to have customers all day. The menu is a mix of some local and some Western choices. If you are looking for a light meal, coffee/tea, or a dessert, you can find a lot of choices here. All of the food and the drinks are good. The pastries are good for breakfast the next morning, or an afternoon snack with tea.

The menu items are slightly odd (a mix of chinese, korean, japanese & central asian), but its in english. Food is decent. They have beer on tap too, and accept credit cards. A solid choice if you're too tired to leave the hotel for a meal.

Frankly, Shmkent is rather dull and this restaurant was a real find. On the first floor of a modern building, it is well appointed and welcoming. Food is good and the maitre d' had spent time in Manchester and speaks good English - very useful as the don't have English menus. Once we found this restaurant, we didn't eat anywhere else.

I stopped here to refuel before an evening flight and had lamb kebab which was grilled meat patties with rice, a little salad, and a lot of raw onion. Service was pleasant and prompt, food was reasonably priced and fairly tasty. There is a large terrace out front which must be nice on a summer evening.

We enjoyed a meal at Mozzarella with friends last August when we were in Shymkent. Nice Italian dishes, fine service, great relaxing atmosphere and the food was all very good. Worthwhile to dine here, no complaints from us at all.

This place is inside the Rixos hotel, managed by them. Unfortunately, the level of service in the hotel is far from perfect so far..On the day visited we where surrounded by a strange group of visitors, celebrating their special event, but we had a feeling we do not deserve any attention therefore and where not taken care of properly

This is a very popular place for the younger crowd and groups in general. It gets busy at night. Good drinks list and menu. The outside seating is pleasant in nice weather. The restaurant usually has something going on - music, football on the massive screen, etc. Go with friends for the atmosphere.

Breakfast at Kazakhasia in Shymkent is a delight. We enjoyed breakfast there on one of our morning while in the wonderful city. Excellent selection of foods for breakfast, the homemade jams are magnificent, everything is fresh and delicious and all very affordable. The only complaint was my brothers didnât like the coffee the day we were there, could have just been a bad pot or something but not enough to mar the rest of the positives about the place and our encounter.
