A clever and meticulous chef rules here! Through three courses there was not a wrong note, with each main ingredient carefully matched to flavours that complemented it. We enjoyed it all tremendously. Service was attentive if a little slow at times, but this is not somewhere you go for a quick meal. Itâs where you go for a dining experience to remember. â¬33 for menu of the day (three courses) with the ability to add extras. It has a very good reputation so it is essential to make a reservation.

The chef in this restaurant between the bridges offers traditional cooking made from fresh produce. On weekdays at lunchtime there is the "market menu" which is changed every day. In the evening the menu changes according to the saison.
One of the view restaurant that were open that night. We chose to stay outside on the patio therefore the pierre chaude was not available to us. We went ahead and took the three course menu - nice selection of options and very tasty. Also the price tag for the food and wine was excellent.

From the start it disappointed because I, as always made the waiter aware of my allergy to chilli, capsicum and paprika. To my surprise the amuse bouche arrived with all three items comprising of my allergies. I made them aware of the problem and they took the plate away then returned with the plate to say itâs only pimento in one offering. I pointed out that no, there is paprika on the courgette soup. He then said oh well your husband can eat them. I said no thank you please take the plate away. No other amuse bouche was offered. Every other restaurant I have dined at have taken my allergy seriously and made an adjustment. Entree was difficult to choose because of the allergy to poivron rouge etc but I was informed the tomato entree was fine. It was nothing more than sliced red and yellow tomatoes spread across the plate in a line topped with 8 fine shavings of Parmesan and 2 very small halves of mozzarella or barratta.I even had to request salt and pepper for taste.Main course choice was almost totally impossible save for the fish of the day (as all others had a chilli family component). I realise this is not their fault but the waiters attitude to my dilemma was poor as if to say well I canât help you. The fish of the day plate was cabilaud and really had no flavour. It was paired with a tomato concoction and a crusty baked bread of Parmesan . I enjoyed neither. The wine list is very extensive . We decided as neither first or second course showed skill from the chef we would forgo dessert.I really expected more chef de cuisine from this restaurant and it was a real disappointment. E29.50 for 2 courses and to come away unhappy for the first time in our French holiday says it all.

A small, very popular restaurant so booking is essential. The food is amazing and the waiter very attentive and knowledgeable. There is a limited menu (only 2 choices per course) but everything is locally sourced and cooked to order and is AMAZING!

We wanted to try eating here (during our long weekend stay in Saumur), after reading some of the other reviews. Initially, we had difficulty reserving a table at the time we wanted, but was then surprised to find several empty tables available. It turns out the Chef prioritises quality over quantity - so tables are limited to how many the Chef can provide for. Indeed, we watched as many people were turned away (despite empty tables) during our meal.We ordered the 4 meat special dish - and it was truly excellent. All the cuts were cooked to perfection and made for a great experience. No hesitation in recommending and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

We were absolutely delighted with this find found through Trip Advisor. Top marks to the friendly and welcoming serving staff. The chef taking the time to welcome us & tell us about the menu, was another thoughtful addition. I love tapas-style dining and the food was splendid. Special mention to the duck shepherds pie, local-style pork pie, and pig trotter, although I get the impression the menu is changed fairly frequently (oh! To live closer!).Itâs a small venue; we were amongst the first to be seated on the Sunday night we visited and not long after, the restaurant was fully occupied. So, Iâd advise going early or booking (if thatâs possible). The combination of staff and quality of the food makes Saumur 1929 unmissable.

Just superb from start to finish. We entered with some concerns it would be too pretentious but soon stopped worrying. The staff were super charming and the food is astonishing. One to remember for many a year.

Lovely spot with very pleasant ambience. Madame herself is charming, and generally the service is good if not very warm. Food from a short menu is tasty and arrives fairly quickly, but they are not very well set up to cater for younger children. My main grip however is price. â¬16 for 2 small skewers of chicken in satay sauce with some mashed potato (!?) is too much. Overall â¬100 for the 3 of us was too much for what we got, although I will say the starters were tasty and the cremet dâAnjou quite superb. All in all good, but not great.
