I wouldn't say that there is anything extraordinarily exceptional about this restaurant but then again it doesn't set itself out to be anything other than a good local, restaurant. Food is good and tasty, well-presented, nice quality, reasonably price - I was not disappointed. My only criticism is that it was a bit noisy as a lot of the tables were for large groups and the waiting staff didn't seem particularly knowledgeable and were not overly attentive. Would return but am not in a rush to do so.

Met a couple of friends there to celebrate my wife's birthday and first impressions were really good as the place has a really nice atmosphere. Table booked for and we were seated at 8.40 - despite having the menu in the bar where perhaps they could have taken the orders so that starters could be ready when you sat down we took them with us and it was another ten minutes or so before the orders were taken. Starters took another quarter of an hour and the mains arrived at 10. That said when the food arrived it was perfect - the green chicken, duck and sea bass were wonderful but the star was the meat platter as a starter. generous portions to say the least. The place didn't seem over busy and I can't understand why everything was so slow. It took the edge off a lovely evening and that's the only reason I haven't given it 5*. Yes I would go back and would recommend it but with the proviso - be prepared to wait.

This is how eating out should be! Great food, lovely atmosphere, great hospitality with a personal experience. We were made to feel really special. About as far removed from the identikit chains as you can imagine. A really straightforward product done well and with care and attention. Cannot wait to battle with everyone else for a table at the next available evening.Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for us. It means a lot to our little cafe bar. This restaurant was recommended by friends and it did not disappoint. The food is all freshly made to order and the flavours were delicious. Quality food at reasonable price. Had an evening meal with friends who had been there before. We were very impressed by the location and the set up . Bar staff was good atmosphere was good car park was absolutely choc a block on a Wednesday evening. Food was ordered and starters were good but huge portions.....my main course was a disappointment a fillet steak with green pepper sauce .... steak was swimming in sauce and the sauce was very salty. Hence it had to go back and then I requested it without the sauce which the chef did and it was ok , nothing to write home about . My husbands steak was good as was everyone elseâs food. But I have to say their portions are very large and we cannot eat such large portions. Prices are good. Overall a good evening out .

Whenever we go to eat here itâs always a pleasure, the staff are always friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is full of energy and gives you a feeling of everyone doing their best to make you feel comfortable. Today the lunch was amazing from the soup(spiced carrot). belly pork with perfect crackling and a fantastic take on apple sauce.Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding great.the presentation was superb, all food piping hot and delicious. Then dessert.... Wow!!! . Thank you Forwards at Ashfields weâll be coming back again very soon.

We decided to try here for a Saturday night out with friends as a change from Wildwood across the way.......Next time we'll go to Wildwood.The food was OK, nothing special just OK. The main thing that will deter us from going back was the service. There didn't appear to be a manager on the restaurant floor and the young staff were enjoying a good chat. They had mastered the art of looking around just over the customers heads so as not to make eye contact. It wasn't a particularly busy evening and we had to wait for staff to come over to us to take orders. They didn't watch our glasses to offer more drinks and a couple of times it took us some time to attract any attention to get service. When we left, as we walked to the door one of them walked towards us and instead of opening the door and saying "goodnight" she just went straight to the welcome desk and put her head down looking at the diary.Very disappointing and these four customers won't be returning.Dear customer,Thank you for your feedback. As I said in my answer to the previous review (which looks the exact copy of this one), we do apologise if our staff was not attentive enough, but I can assure you that they were not trying to avoid you. It was actually quite busy that night (as all our Saturday nights), but still, we will make sure this wonât happen again. However, it is a bit bizarre to see two reviews in a row manifestly advertising another restaurant, and in both cases not faulting our food. We hope there is no conflict of interest here, and that these are both genuine reviews. Although the service is a crucial part of the dining experience, you'd agree with me that - at times - there might be cases where the service is not up to the usual standards. If this a regular issue, then there is clearly a problem. But, as you can see from our previous reviews, we always try to deliver an excellent service. Perhaps, a second chance could tell you whether this is a real issue, or your bad experience was just a one-off.However, we do understand if you prefer other restaurants, itâs just a shame our fresh food was nothing special for you.

We love this pub. The stafff are always welcoming and the food is good and very reasonably priced. We have only been in lunchtimes but they regularly have evening entertainment.

Four adults and a lively 15 month-old toddler on a wet and miserable Sunday afternoon. Good choice of food, great service and lovely food! Great atmosphere too as it was cheerfully busy! The starter and dessert were particularly good- better than pubs in the area usually offer. The main course was traditional Sunday lunch fare- what was very pleasing, however, was that when we asked for extra vegetables and gravy they were delivered straightaway! Very good value too. We will definitely go back! Xx

Visited Softleys for date night last Saturday evening and it did not disappoint! Quaint little restaurant with relaxed atmosphere. Service was prompt and friendly when we arrived. Food was incredible, best meal out we have had for a while. Salmon wellington and Baileys sundae special to die for! Super impressed, would recommend and will be visiting again.
