We had one of the best meals of our holiday at this lovely restaurant. The food was interesting, fresh, flavourful and served in ample portions. Nice atmosphere. Quick service. We recommended the place to fellow travellers and they had a wonderful meal there too.

Al PescatoreThe name of the restaurant says it all â Al Pescatore (âthe fishermenâ) located at the junction where the modern via dei Pescatore from Acilia (direction Rome) meets the Lungomare Duilio coastal road and a little more than a kilometre or so from the end of the Via Cristoforo Colombo. This is how you would get there by car should you be staying over in the city or camping, for example, 6-7 km away at Camping Fabulous on the Via di Malafadi just outside Vitinia. Coming from the city by the Porto S Paolo-Lido train line itâs only a five minute walk crossing the footbridge over the Canale dello Stagno from Castel Fusano station â the second from the end of the line. Travel around todayâs Ostia Lido and youâd be largely oblivious to the ancients who once lived hereabouts and the swamplands that dominated their living space. Post-Roman it was sand dunes that made up the âPiana Bellaâ. Today itâs mainly concreted-over, although the Castel Fusano urban forest park begins across the canal and stretches down the coast into the lands of the Presidentâs Palace. This is where the ancient Romans reputedly used to keep stocks of wild animals for the games in Rome. This, of course, is largely beyond the casual diner, and you canât even see the canal next door from your table; seating is inside and under an open plan plastic roof structure. Al Pescatore, however, is well worth the visit; a sort of Mecca for Roman fish cuisine in all its delightful tastes. Of a week-end the place is heaving with local people who drive out for the occasion. Mid-week it can be dominated by the sea sporting fraternity training nearby â men and women both â in their youth, vigour and vitality.Weâve been coming here for, well, almost 20 years after some friends held their wedding party in the restaurant. Itâs the sort of place for that special meal with family or friends. Mid-week and there were three of us for dinner and the restaurant was less than half full. We shared our primi piatti (two portions) insalade di mari and alici fritte (fried anchovies) that you eat whole â which, with fresh bread, was more than sufficient as a light meal; this was followed by pasta dishes â vongole (x1) and vongole & fungi porcini (x2). Given the quantity of pasta that remained on the plates; we should have chosen half portions, but thatâs the issue with ordering and enjoying primi. A carafe of the restaurantâs white wine complemented the meal. Sit down charges, bread and wine and the five plates cost E66 for the three of us â so a little more than E20/each. Service was quick â faster, it seemed, than we were able to order; we just couldnât make up our minds.Peter SteeleRome

This was recommended by our Hotel in Lido di Ostia, and it definitely did not disappoint. We went here two nights in a row, and both times had good food and a good experience. I recommend the seafood paella, was excellent choice. The staff are nice and they speak enough English, I also liked the great music in here, it really added to the nice experience. If I ever return to Lido di Ostia, I will go back here for dinner 100%. Highly recommended!

We've first stopped for dinner at this place on a Monday evening. It was bustling full, but they have a lot of waiters working so waiting time was fairly short. Food was excellent, though I only later realized the Italians don't include garnish in the price. Pay attention to that, otherwise your fish plate will have delicious seafood on it and a few salad leaves... Price was quite okay for Hungarian standards, but I did forget the garnish. Still great vibe, good price.

Went for dinner on a Thursday night. Not that busy but the service was attentive and really professional and yet friendly. We tried the crudo di frutti di mare and the degustazione di antipasti. Both really good platters of fresh seafood and we'll cooked fish combined with different ingredients. We had two pastas after. My was the special of the day. Two massive ravioli filled with cod and courgette flowers, simply fantastic. My girlfriend went for lobster tagliolini...can't go wrong with that! Overall amazing experience by the sea (literally 1metre away from the water)Dear Gianluca F,we are really happy to read this! Come back again for a really "on the sea" dinner!

Restaurant, street food, delivery.
The menu was very interesting with lots of unusual choices. The first course vas tortellini which tasted perfect. The main course was bacala of cod. This was a tiny portion, only suitable as a starter. My wife told me afterwards that her fish was cold!? Mine was luke warm and acceptable as the dish tasted really good. One dessert with strawberries was boring, both in taste and appearance as it was accompanied with a soggy sugar bun. The other dessert was exceptionally good - a truffle flavored ice cream on top of a tasteful chocolate "brownie". Definitively a highlight. The service was friendly and pleasant. A bit more effort from the kitchen with regards to presentation and amount of food on the main course, as well as reevaluating the composition of the strawberry dessert would be helpful hints on how to draw more customers to the restaurant. The Officina Culinaria is a bit pricey, but given the interesting menu it deserves the attention from those who are looking for something out of the ordinary.

Our Italian business partners had us take an early quit one sunny afternoon and we took the train to Ostia Antica where a professional English speaking guide gave us a thorough tour of the very well-preserved ruins. Much better than Pompeii! After the site closed at 1830, we took the train to the coast (3 stops?) and we walked to this seaside restaurant. Our hosts had pre-arranged everything. We started with glasses of pro secco as we watched the sunset from the water's edge, then the gastronomic spectacle commenced!First up was tuna tartare, chunks of melt in your mouth ahi in truffle oil. Second starter was very tender squid body stuffed with minced shrimp and basil with a creamy sauce, minced olives and crispy fried prosciutto. No rubbery calamari rings here! Third round was steamed mussels in a a delicious broth for bread dipping. Fourth - baked fresh (not salty nor "fishy!") anchovies in corn meal with pickled onion, rocket and a light fish paste sauce. Then onto a primo - creamy tomato rice with seafood bits and pomegranate pips. Then another dish - not really a starter. Nuggets of smoked ricotta, sun dried tomato, shaved cheese and pickled octopus. Crazy textures at work here! Seconni was a a filet of baked sea bass served on an orange reduction garnished with salty fennel, bitter chocolate and red currant. Are you full yet just reading this? We finished up with a freshly made lemon sorbet with fresh mint. Many many bottle of a flinty Chablis-type (or Mersault) white wine complemented all this seafood. Some Limoncello and grappa finished the evening before we sprinted to catch the last train back to Rome.An unforgettable meal in a beautiful setting.
