Well, you'd expect great seafood on an island off the Atlantic coast of France and L'Ocean didn't disappoint. I had the assiette de fruits de mer, which included all sorts of lovely shellfish, including sea snails, mussels, prawns and other goodies. Then had the moules marinier with pommes frites, which was also fantastic. Service was good and it was nice being outside.

It is true that we came late and they still served us which is on itself quite a thing in France. The food was normal although very well presented and the service although nice very slow.We ordered and it took a long time for the waiter to tell us that one of the dishes was not available, we then requested the menu card again, which took long and by the time we reordered the food they told us that this dish could not be served because the kitchen was closed... It was their fault but still that did not matter. We did not want to pursue the matter as we were on holidays but although the place is great and the food was good, the overall experience was not the one expected.A pity

Dear Monsieur / Madam You have a great location, right on the Quay side, in a lovely French fishing village. You advertise 12 (local) oysters for 19 euros. We come to your restaurant: (1) we are kept standing by the entrance, waiting to be seated. (2) After 3 minutes, we choose a table ourselves and sit down. (3) Then we wait for 10 minutes until we get the attention of the waiter. (4) We ask for 12 oysters and a bottle of white wine (40 euros) but are told we have to also order dessert. (5) I say actually we only want the oysters and wine. She makes a face but eventually the oysters arrive. What have we leant from this experience? The oysters were fabulous, fresh and zingy. As good as any oyster I've ever tasted. But why was the service so, well, un-French? At the end, ms perhapsthistime had to be very assertive to get l'addition. The oysters were amazing, the service was very average.

We come here each time we visit the Ile de Ré. Fortunately no-one seems to have caught on about this treasure, slight exaggeration! You need to book. Today we had the âpoisson du jourâ filleted sardines, excellent! The staff are really great and the atmosphere is totally holiday. The view is second to none.

Great spot fort dinner - the staff is lovely and attentionate, they really go out of their way to make the dinner a success (contrary to many other restaurants on the island). Food is great - the Chaudrée charentaise is excellent ! All in all a fab place and great spot with a view on the marais salants !

This place seems quite unusual in its approach to eating and drinking. I find French restaurants a bit daunting much of the time. I donât eat meat and thereâs often not a lot of choice, with the best-value menus full of meat dishes. This place seems to acknowledge that not everyone wants to sit down to 2 or 3 courses at lunch. Some might want a plate of cheese, others a few snacky things .. maybe someone else only wants a glass of wine and something salty with it . HOORAY for le Tour de Senechal. I love it here. They do great coffee, the interior is spectacularly gorgeous and the staff are v nice. The view outside is also great. Why arenât there more places like this in France?

We stopped in after seeing the menu - 3 courses for 14.80⬠which seemed reasonable for lunchThe staff were friendly and attentive and responded well to your questions and requirementsThe food came a bit fast (the kitchen is obviously well organized) but the first course prawns and mackerel pate were cold so preprepared they were superb very tastyThe main course once they got the cooking level of the bavette of beef sorted was very good plentiful portions and again tastyI had the Blanquette of Seiche (a stew if cuttlefish) and it was deliciousDesert was panna cotta with a salted caramel topping very niceWhilst we may not be back this way for a long time we know this restaurant is there and it is good valueThe only complaint was it was a bit rushed and it seems chefs in France don't understand they way steaks or burgers should be cooked as they all seem to serve them underdone to the point of being raw another minute or so on a higher heat would do the trick - cooked with a bit of pink in the centre one day perhaps!

Cracking setting to watch the sun set in this charming village. Fully booked a lot of the time. Had a great meal and excellent service. A little pricey but captive audience. Would go again and even a great place to hang out for a beer......

I had a delicious vegan meal here. Although the options are limited, there is a vegan starter, main and desert which were all delicious; the highlight was the dessert which was a vegan panna cotta. There are also lots of meat and fish options which my parents enjoyed. The garden is lovely, and itâs a really serene area of Ars-en-Ré

We arrived late but the staff was kind enough to move us twice due to large groups occupying two of the rooms. The starters and main courses were excellent. The manager is from Burgundy so the wine list is good too. We hope to return soon!
