Well apparently this is not the right place looking for Michelin Star kind of kitchen. But if you are looking for Austria's traditional dishes you are at the right place. You find a selection of dishes freshly cooked from fresh ingredients and well served. Vegetables and meat are cooked to the right point as ordered. Typically you have to watch out as in particular the dishes served in pans are really hot out if the stove. Size of the dishes goes ok even if you are hungry after hiking or skiing - though don't expect oversized portion - it is just about right. The service is really nice and and very fast. If you are showing up with some more people, a lager family or so, they just try to get you seated as nice as possible, if space is left. And for the smaller ones they have kids menus available. Wine card I've not tested. Price of the dishes are very fair and affordable. Interior style is the kind of "Austrian rustique" - which is not my personal favor but it is all nice and clean. Situated is the restaurant left from the Main Street if you go downhill but you have to watch out for the signs. Good thing it is still in heart of Matrei and even after a few more beer there is no need for a car as it is walking distance to any place within Matrei.

Great place for traditional Austrian food. Atmosphere is fantastic service as it has to be. Prices are more then reasonable and above all they can deal perfectly with bigger groups.
Had lunch here while winter walking. Bit tricky ordering in our rusty German, as patron did not speak much English, but after some comic moments, we got there. The food was lovely - traditional hearty mountain dishes. Save some space for the pudding - we had Kaisershmarrn - which is a massive fluffy pancake served with apple sauce - one serving is more than ample for two. Views down the valley were good.
The location is very nice on top of the mountains. Unfortunately service not working the way it should, after 25 minutes and 2 reminders (!) we gave up on our order. Only after giving up on our order we were informed that our order would not show up in their computer. Will choose another restaurant next time.

Enjoy our specialities on our brand new terrace with a tremendous view over the Kalsertal-valley. Try our delicious Tiroler Knödel (dumplings with speck), home-made Schlipfkrapfen (cooked potatoes wrapped in a pastry), or an oven-fresh rost pork! During t

If you do not plan to hike the GroÃglockner, then you should drive to the Lucknerhaus at least. The spot offers an amazing view on Austria's highest mountain. I can as well recommend to do a wildlife watching tour with the nationapark rangers from the National Park Hohe Tauern Matrei in Osttirol. The tour takes about 2 hours and with a binocular you will see the big 5 of Austria (ibex, chamoix, marmots, eagle, hare). Defenitely worth it. A Kaiserschmarrn or Käsespätzle at the Lucknerhaus round up the day perfectly.

Heaven so near: amidst the spectacular Grossglockner mountain scenery, modern architecture reaches towards the clouds of style and enjoyment. With more than 60 three-thousand meter peaks in front of you, chilling, dining, staying overnight or simply âbein
During ski holiday we spend a couple of times in the Adler Lounge. Not in the restaurant itself but on the upper floor where there is a private lounge.this is really a great place to stay with an amazing view on the mountains.Friendly staff, good food, nice audience, what else do you need for a perfect day in the alps ?

Just had a couple of drinks here while waiting for the taxi. The only bar area there was doubled as the smoking area, so the only way to have a drink at the bar was by getting smoked. What is Austria waiting for? Smoke bans work fine all over Europe! Why do places like this not locate the smokers area in some other place than the most prominent spot in the house?

Very seldom do you take a chance on a restaurant in a tourist area and you have a great, all-around experience. On two separate occasions, we had wonderful food and excellent service in a very pleasing environment. We tried several different dishes and were pleasantly surprised at the presentation and the quality of the food. Do not pass up this restaurant--it is a gem.
