Absolutely excellent meal at lunchtime. Large tables with plenty of space between you and other diners. Excellent service. We chose the â¬24 menu, all courses of which were delicious - pétoncles, snails, duck with tagliatelle, crumble almost as good as mine. Excellent house wine. Can't wait to go again.Classy, comfortable decor.Closed Sunday evening and Monday.

WELCOME TO MARMITON At the heart of Dunkirk, the restaurant "Le Marmiton " welcomes you in a chic and friendly setting for a meal with friends, family or professional. For everyone and for every occasion , traditional kitchens and new flavors await you .
I booked Le Marmiton on the basis of it's Trip Advisor rating when I was looking for a decent place for lunch, prior to catching a ferry back to the UK. We were not disappointed. There is ample parking outside the front of the restaurant (free on a Sunday) which was particularly nice as the weather was filthy. The restaurant did not look all that prepossessing from the outside, but we were reassured by three groups of French people going inside while we parked the car. We had booked which was handy as the restaurant was full. The menu is traditional French with the option of 3 different set menus or a la carte. We went for the 2 course â¬30 option and really enjoyed what we ate. My starter (smoked salmon and goose liver pate) was so large that I had to give up 2/3 of the way through my main course, much to the delight of my husband who was happy to help out. the service was good and the ambience lovely. We felt it was excellent value for money. Our only disappointment was that we did not get to sample anything from the interesting looking wine list (driving and all that), so we have every intention of going back when we do not have to drive anywhere afterwards.

We found ourselves nearby and just had to go back for another visit.. The decor and service were the same high standard. the food is treated with reverence, the service effortless and refined.. The ambiance was pleasant and not at all stuffy with whole families in attendance. The food was once again excellent and real value for money.Leticia and her young staff were excellent at front of house while Charles and their young children sorted the bill (in between colouring). A special experience and one we will no doubt repeat if given the chance.

Well worth visiting but beware, they are very popular and certainly at weekend a booking is essential. I booked with them direct and thought I had made a reservation, however although their mail confirmed my booking I had not confirmed their mail! Although they were full they squeezed us in as I had made a mistake. Very good menu with good variety for all tastes. Super service, friendly and efficient, attentive when needed. Price is as one would expect for the standard. The location is by a dock/canal where a 4 master tall ship is moored up. There is a swing bridge toallow ships through, it has a VERY load claxon when operating.

Having arrived on the tall ship Tenacious from England, we hunted around for a decent restaurant in the marina and thought we had found our ideal location, a restaurant called Le Sweet, however as a group of 9 we were quickly ushered away and told that the Puzzle was a sister restaurant with the same chef, however we found this hard to believe as the two are about five doors apart! Anyway onto the Puzzle. . .I ordered the Pave de beouf which was extremely succulent and a caramel crème brulee which is probably the best I have ever tasted. My fellow travellers chose other dishes including Lamb shank which was a massive portion and extremely tasty by all accounts. The service was exemplary and the wine recommended by the waiter was spot on. I would definitely choose this restaurant again and wouldnt even bother with Le sweet!

Good atmosphere, with a lot of character and style. Exellent service, the Chef will come around to tell you about the dishes and the story of the place.Enjoyable experiance, intersting food, very nice set up and attention to details. A very good option 15 minutes drive away from the center of Dunkerque

Excellent lunch place right on the quai overlooking the boats on the quai
We drove into the centre of Dunkerque not sure of what we would find. The harbour area is lovely with some great ships, a museum and this wonderful restaurant. The menu had an interesting variety of local sea food. I enjoyed a wonderful salad that had bread-crumbed deep fried prawns, a huge pile of shrimps, a Thai fish-cake style croquette and a stack of the most wonderful smoked salmon. I am Scots and know good smoked salmon - but this was amazing. I asked the waitress where it came from and she pointed across the harbour and said 'over there' it is smoked with wood chips over there. It melted in my mouth and could be crushed to nothing by my tongue on the roof of my mouth with delicate flavours all washed down with the crisp and fruity house rosé.The service was friendly, the waitress spoke perfect English and the food was excellent. I'll be back.

Connaissez-vous le sens du mot "informel" ? Qui n'est pas soumis à des règles strictes, officielles. L'informel est un restaurant familial qui vous propose des burgers maison revisités et une vitrine du jour de salades, de plats cuisinés en bocaux et de d
When a stranger opens the door to a new venue there is often intrepidation and definately expectation. At L'informel the warm and wonderful welcome is matched by the competent and well fused food of this region. Chicken which tastes like chicken, wild boar sausage which has some resemblance of the animal as well as good solid flavours which run through the starters and puddings. We had the house Merlot which was really good and well chosen, a true mark which shows that house wine is representative of the restaurant. Modern and minimalist is not for some, the use of black clothes and napkins emphasises the food plate and does not let the mind wonder to far from the table. The service is relaxed and like the name suggests informal, we liked this place a lot and loved the lady with the warmest welcome on a miserable day.
Where to eat French food in Grande-Synthe: The Best Restaurants and Bars
