I have been a regular of Robert harris in Gisborne for a long time. I have always enjoyed it and the team there have been friendly and accommodating. The place does a fantastic eggs Benedict with generous helpings of bacon and sauce.A great amount of space in side and out and very rarely overcrowded. This is not a trendy place with simple layout and some would say dated atmosphere, however I think of it more as a modern day tea room, providing good food in a comfortable environment with friendly staff that know the regulars. They also do a great hot chocolate.

As relative newcomers to Gisborne we stopped at the Club for a quick beer. After signing in we relaxed in the large Sports bar, watched the Olympics and then ordered dinner as we found the locals quite hospitable The dinner was reasonably priced and more than sufficient for 4 tired travellers

Our friends took us here. It was a nice suprise. We were the only customers and had great service. The food was amazing. Best prawn dish I've ever had!

First time visiting here although we've lived in the area a while. Staff was friendly and helpful, attentive, and offered a lot of help with some dietary restrictions. The meals varied from excellent to average. I had the steak which was a wonderful cut, extremely tasty, and cooked to perfection. The fish was also tasty, but no more so than can be found in local fish shops, and the pizza was beautiful in presentation but a little under-cooked and doughy. The atmosphere was very nice.I thought for $13 the glass of wine should have had more than what appeared to be about 4 oz, and we were charged $0.50 for a small, flat, paper take-away bag for the left over pizza, which seems ridiculous after spending $150 for 3 meals and two glasses of wine. So other than maybe the overall value of the meal, we enjoyed our experience there.

Looking for something nice, not too expensive but with different elements to the dishes, please go to this place. We went in without any expectations. The entrance was kinda weird as we thought we came in via the backdoor, but we persevered finding the right way and got the best night out for long time! Great entrees, we chose 3 and wished we had chosen more! All super tasty and original! The mains were all brilliantly cooked with the black charcoaled fish salad as an absolute topper! Finishing off with a lovely desert with fresh tastes. Elder choose the choc-Coffee ice cream anymore as this was the least special but still nice! Prices were great ! Defenitely come back here!

Great Service, fresh funky food, relaxed atmosphere, beachfront dining at its best!
Recently treated to a dinner here, weekday, off-season. It was not too crowded but the service and the food were excellent. My wife cannot eat dairy. When she asked which meals were dairy free the waiter said, "Except for the chowder which has a milk base, order whatever else you like, and the chef will prepare it dairy free." WOW!The chef came and spoke with us afterwards, to make sure we liked the meal and get feedback. She was fantastic! The view can't be beat, the food is delicious, and it's a little off the beaten restaurant track in Gisborne. Portions were large and delicious. I wanted to order off of the dessert menu, but didn't have any room left. I highly recommend them.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, after work get together's, birthday parties, business lunches, a romantic table for two, family gatherings - or no reason at all. Enjoy the unique ambiance of the iconic Works Restaurant and Bar, situated in all that remains of t
Decided not sit outside on the attractive verndah, a pity, but the weather though sunny was windy. Inside is just as lovely, fine old building. Limited menu due to there being no fish available (the previous day was a holiday Monday). I had the seafood linguine, husband the steak sandwich, fies on the side, and a bottle of Koptiki pinot gris. Food, wine and service all superb Highly recommend.

Zest was the lucky 4th cafe I walked into while trying to find the ârightâ cafe for this ex-Gizzy back on holiday. I ordered the vegetarian muffin & English breakfast tea with almond milk. The muffin was excellent as was the tea - nice & hot with great colour. The cabinet food looked nice also. A wonderful experience to recharge the batteries. Thank you.

Superb atmosphere with good menu- no GF options but chef happy to alter fish dish. This was a really great meal and friends dining with me all very complimentary with their choices. Wine choice limited and our waitress very helpful but had limited knowledge. Felt that Gisborne wines should have been showcased- where were the Milton wines?

Ultimate fine dining in Gisborne- Michelin Style Dining, Bistro style lunches
Went for lunch which had $34 for entree/desert and main(not steak) meal. Right on river next to outrigger canoe launch. Historic venue with sad back story. Wealthy parents build ball room onto mansion to try and attract beau for daughter. Didn't work. She died a spinster and someone cut ball room off and shipped down river to become a restaurant. After which 40 years of more happy memories. Good service. Food good but docked a star for gristly steak but worth a visit. Crab cakes chicken crepe and risotto balls all good though.
