We booked in on the off-chance to stay two nights in the area and, arriving in the late afternoon, we decided to eat in the restaurant. We could not have made a wiser choice as the cuisine was superb and the service was very professional. We booked immediately to eat on our second night too and were not disappointed by the choice available and the style and panache displayed in the cooking and presentation. We were able to talk to the Chef/Proprietor and heard about the history of the Hotel and their continued insistence on the use of local and often home grown produce. Our room for the stay was traditionally decorated, well in keeping with the age of the property. The bed was comfortable and we slept well, rising to enjoy our breakfast which again included home made produce, jams and yogurt. When we visit the area again, this will be our Hotel and Restaurant of choice.

In my last review of this splendid spot, I waxed in extravagant praise of their Cote de Boeuf, which was part of last year's summer menu. Recently Facebook revealed that it was also going to be part of this year's summer menu....so the Wednesday lunch destination was instantly decided. I emailed my partner-in-lunch, Rex Mackay..the Laird of Strathnaver..and phoned the restaurant for a reservation; then sat back in happy anticipation of another carnovores delight. Adam Richman, eat your heart out... although it seems our TV Man v. Food isn't flavour of the month, these days, after an exchange of ruderies on Twitter. Whatever....anyway, off we toddled to the Gaité in happy anticipation. It's a very relaxing sort of spot...we went in and were seated at our usual table...got an aperitif and scanned the menu.DISASTER!!!!This was still the previous menu.....no Cote de Boeuf.....crestfallen, heartbroken, generally cheesed off, I peered at every page...and no sign of the delectable piece of bovine extravagance. BLAST!!! Then the nice young lady came over....and I mentioned that the Cote de Boeuf was absent...and she told me that their new menu would be starting NEXT week. However, since they had recognised me during my phone call, the Chef had been out to the Boucherie and acquired a Cote de Boeuf especially for me!!! Now, this is over and above any service I have ever had from any restaurant anywhere....and my day suddenly became all sparkly and full of joie de vivre. She explained that it WAS for "deux personnes", but - as before - I didn't see that as much of an obstacle. So we ordered....We both started with Hure de Poulet, which is a collection of small pieces of chicken and vegetables en gelée, with a basil dressing....delicious, and going perfectly with the bottle of rosé which seemed appropriate to a hot day. The Laird professed disgust with rosé wine, but I persuaded him to try some and we ended up sharing the bottle!!Then came the centrepiece of the whole repast...the Cote de Boeuf. I raved on about this in my last review and can see no reason to go through it all again; suffice it to say that standards have not slipped and any proper meat eating neanderthal would be in raptures!! I would, once more, agree that the average appetite would best treat it as a dish for two....since I am about as big as two standard people it didn't trouble me overwhelmingly! Rex, not being into Beef, had gone for the rabbit and that went down just as well. After a bit of a pause, we went on to the Financier au Chocolat and the Salad de Fraise au Vinaigre Balsamic...both forming a great counterpoint to the meaty marathon that had gone before. The whole thing was concluded with coffee, armagnac and an Aberlour for the Laird.I am so pleased that the little village where my holiday home is has got a restaurant worthy of multiple visits. I used to live in Kew, near the Gardens....and couldn't wait to escape to France and my boat. Since I sold the place in Kew and became "A Freeborn Man, of the travelling people", my old stamping ground has acquired everything one might wish; decent shops, restaurants and bars....and my French outpost had lagged sadly behind. Now, with the advent of the Gaité, I have an establishment that can hold it's head up in any company. It follows the best recipe for a small restaurant...a restricted choice of properly fresh food, cooked to order with love and attention...rather than a huge choice of different dishes which you know must be coming out of the freezer!I can commend it to all who pass...anyone mooching along the Loire Canal who has the chance to stop at Léré would be fools to pass up the chance of spending a lunchtime or evening here.

Fine dining. Lovely ambience in the restaurant. Food was beautifully presented with flair and creativity. Just a short walk from our boat mooring in the St Thibault embranchement. We had a great night and would certainly return.(The patisserie on the corner is also excellent and well worth visiting for breakfast croissants and pastries. One of the best we found).

Ate lunch here today. The Terrace was full, and no wonder. For â¬12, you are served a 3 course meal which is fresh (salad), delicious ( turkey breast, potatoes, other vegetables and a fabulous sauce), desert was a great créme caramel. The place overlooks the canal of the Loire system and really is a must stop if you are driving a boat down the canal.I highly recommend it.

We chose the formula menu for the price of 14.90 euros, where you could either have a starter and a main plate, or a main plate with a dessert, accompanied with either a glass of wine or a beer each. We both had rump steak which was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and very quickly served indeed. I then had ''rocky road cake'' which was like a rich chocolate cake with a caramel sauce, and my wife had ice cream. Very good indeed!

We had a good meal at le Square - I had the hamburger which was excellent. We had a pichet of rose which was not cold enough but the waitress brought us ice when we pointed it out. Very good service and good simple food - only one waitress for the whole restaurant and she worked tirelessly with a nice smile all evening.

Having arrived in Cosne on a very wet day we parked right outside the restaurant and went in for a snack. Having ordered Croque Monsieur, which we have enjoyed many times in France, what turned up did not resemble this classic dish. It seemed to have been made with a sort of biscuit and totally tasteless cheese with a few fatty lardons. It was also quite expensive and they could not wait to get rid of us. As it is billed as a brasserie this seemed odd.Bonjour. Cordialement.

Opened in March 2011, the Bistrot d'Anatole is a gourmet restaurant with a young and dynamic decor, where you can taste creative and refined cuisine. Choice of card renew regularly. A large number of prestigious wines will accompany your meal ... A terrac
An excellent lunch menu, which is probably the best value for money menu I have ever enjoyed in France. Each of the 3 dishes I enjoyed was very tasty (3 course lunch for just 20.50 euros)...interesting, slightly spicy starter of honey beef ravioli, nice warming chicken, with creamy sauce and rice for main course, then a beautifully fresh mango cheesecake for dessert. All very good! The service here was pretty good and the atmosphere and decor were nice. This is clearly very highly regarded locally, as we dined here on a Tuesday lunchtime in December and there must have been at least 40-50 people in the restaurant, spread across the lower level area and larger area up the stairs at the back.
