You are probably asking yourself why the rating isn't commensurate with the title and quite frankly I was very impressed with the food which is unfortunately not something I can say every day. Great value proposition, nice atmosphere (great open fire in the middle of the restaurant) and the quality and friendliness of the staff was good. That said, the speed of service was so slow that quite frankly it spoiled the whole experience which was a shame. Our lunch experience lasted over 2 hours (starter, main + dessert) !To be very fair, the waitress did offer us our appetitive which was an excellent reflection of the type of restaurant but the speed really did let them down.I will probably give them a second chance based on the quality/taste of the food but am really hoping that they work on the speed as its a shame to see such a great find ruined by something that should be relatively easy to fix.

I did not know this restaurant before and it has been a nice surprise.Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good choice of food and wine. Everybody was satisfied about the freshness and the taste of all dishes. Last but not least, the price was correct.I don't know when I will have the opportunity to come back, but I strongly recommend to try it.

We were working in Paris for 4 days - staying in a nearby hotel - who recommended this restaurant. It was just up the road. Well, we went there every evening! The owners are Portuguese and passionate about their country's food and wine. Their enthusiasm and nightly welcome made it an easy choice every evening. We have been to Portugal but the wine this place served was exceptional. Excellent fish and meat dishes and oh my - try the home-made desserts!!!Such a great place! They also have rooms and a bar is attached to the restaurant. You must be prepared to watch and listen to French TV but that's pretty normal in French restaurants.

My wife and I have eaten here many times in our three years living in Chatou so I guess we owe Les Canotiers a review. The welcome and service from the lovely couple who run front of house is always perfect, although at times I have no idea how they manage to keep up, they always do and with good humour. Our French isn't great, but unlike some places, they let us have fun trying and are patient with their explanations of some of the dishes. The food is modern, simple and tasty, with excellent ingredients (like Bavarian beef). The chef's terrine is my default entree as it comes as an unlimited 'all you can eat' portion where you help yourself from the huge bowl, endless bread and pot of great gherkins. There is always a good mix of fish and meat dishes to choose from and the wine list is great, although we usually go with a recommendation and it's always good. Paris is only 20 minutes on the local train from here yet Les Canotiers makes the trip a risk as the food in Paris is not always as good as this and the service is rarely as good, all for at least twice the price. We've introduced all of our friends to the restaurant and they've never been disappointed.

It is traditional French cuisine. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes in appetizers, entrees and deserts. Guests have the choice of appetizer/entree or entree/desert for 28 euros, or you can choose the 3 courses for 35 euros which I believe was very reasonable for the quality of the food served. The four of us took different dishes and everything was just very good : I took the filet de boeuf which was very tender and the sauce outstanding. It is a small place so I would advise to make reservations. Would certainly go back when in the area.

Found this restaurant right by the La Chateau bus stop on the corner of the road to Malmaison as lunchtime arrived and what an excellent find it was. The waitresses were very friendly, provided an English menu. The choice was good of both food and drinks. I was blown away by the excellent Sea Bass. The Salmon gourmet plate was also popular. Great place to eat.

Located on a quaint little side street in 'downtown' Bougival, this restaurant is a delight. The service is kind and attentive, and the food is original and tasty. The little amuse-bouche they served (a savory cookie with an avocado cream & écrivisse) was a pleasure. The lunch menu (entree+plat+dessert) at 19,90⬠is a real deal, given the quality of the food. I had the oeuf mollet with asparagus & I would have preferred the egg to be runny, but to each his own. Everyone at our table had the cod which was perfectly cooked and the accompanying vegetables were exceptional. I had the riz au lait for dessert which was ok, but a little heavy because I had already eaten so much, and so well. I will definitely be back!

We were staying in the Holiday Inn and this is just a five minute walk from there. We arrived just as they were opening (7:00) and were offered the 'last table', which we thought was quite funny there was no one else in there. We started with a glass of Kir, which came with croutons and tapenade. Being as we were in France we had to have escargot, this was a real surprise (yes we've had escargot many times before) they were beautifully served in a light tempura batter, absolutely delicious, and if you're a bit squeamish about escargot this would be a great way to try them. I had sea bream for my main this was served with a pasteisse sauce which worked well. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her moules. To finish we had some local cheese. All washed down with a bottle of Cote du Rhone. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and speak good English! By the time we were leaving the restaurant was full and buzzing with locals queuing for tables. Definitely worth booking for a Friday or Saturday night. Our meal came to â¬68.30, which we thought was good value.
