Had a very nice dinner in this center of Lanquedoc wine country. The proprietress certainly helped with my poor French language command. My starter was a thinly sliced beef carpaccio with tomatoes, lettuce, parmesan shaved cheese and pesto sauce. Very tasty. Next was brochette of lamb with onion and peaches on the brochette and a nice ratatouille with flash grilled potatoes. Fromage included saint albray, a blue and I think a crottin chavignol goat cheese. Dessert was chocolate and coffee (?) ice cream. The wine was a local Saint Chinian Domaine Moulinier 2017. Double express and an after dinner local wine known as Maury Comaire des Soulanes 2015 finished my evening. A very good dinner amongst nice people.

Of course, the view is spectacular. You can see the river and viaduct from the terrace dining area across the road from the cave. Which is what it is; a wine seller's with a kitchen. It is owned by a Dutchman whose family are involved in fishing in the North Sea and that's where my Sea Bass came from. Tasty and succulent and perfectly prepared. A decent local organic white wine accompanied this main course. Prices are reasonable. However, service can be a bit sketchy and you can be hanging around waiting for the bill. Still, the food's good whatever it may be and the view is, as I said, spectacular.

Outside appearances can be deceptive. Walk through the somewhat austere bar to the charming garden restaurant at the back. If you have not booked then probably best to arrive by 12.30 latest to as good disappointment. Wide choice of food but the 3 course lunch menu including a quarter carafe of wine each at 14.90 euros was tremendous value. The food was great; the service very efficient and friendly and the ambience great.

We were really excited to read reviews and had called to see menu previously before booking. We had our table for the whole evening which was lovely. No rush to get you out here.We felt that the food was under seasoned somewhat, and I only add seasoning to food when itâs being cooked and never after itâs on the plate. The flavours were not strong enough to notice for our palates even though I have no doubt that everything was made with care and attention and best quality ingredients and there were some lovely ideas. Beware if you ask for the fillet steak because medium rare (or a point) comes back as medium+.Sorry not one we will return to.

We visited for lunch as a family on a Friday in early September. There was 4 of us and we arrived at the restaurant at 13:30hr.There was nothing to indicate the opening hours of the restaurant and yet on arrival we were greeted by a member of staff with crossed arms who effectively âshooedâ us away. There was no apology or explanation. Unbelievably poor customer service, even if the restaurant was no longer serving lunch. The great news for us was that meant we went to Cave St Martin back up the road and closer to the bridge. They were more than happy to serve us and that lunch was very special.

We went twice as within walking distance to our accommodation - staff was very nice and food very decent. Would recommend and come back if we are back in the region.Staff pro-actively helped bringing our pram down in the garden and would make joke, and overall made us have a great evening!

This is a place for locals, in a village in the Languedoc wine country. It is simple local food, well prepared and well priced, with helpful and pleasant wait staff.

One of the pleasures of living in this part of the world is discovering new places to enjoy well-prepared, reasonably priced meals in pleasant surroundings with congenial hosts. Auberge de Reals typifies that pleasure. The restaurant is located near a picturesque bridge over the Orb River off the main road between Cazouls-les-Beziers and Cessenon sur Orb. The view from the terrace must be quite nice in summer but we came in late January and so had to 'settle' for the main dining room with its crackling fire, stone walls, beams, and tile floors. We joined a healthy lunch crowd, very congenial, many of whom seemed to be local regulars.Service was attentive without being intrusive, pleasant without being over familiar. Given the nearly full house, our orders arrived surprisingly briskly, not hurried but not as leisurely as some.We ordered from the daily formula. Our salads came with a chunk of buttery fresh bread topped with a slice of goat cheese broiled just right. Simple greens, small wedges of tomato and slices of mushroom, and a mustardy cream sauce. Cathey ordered the fish casserole, chunks of white-fleshed fish (cod?) in a creamy sauce with carrots and a lightly breaded crust. Tasty and a proper portion. Her side of rice was delicately flavored, not bland at all. I had the andouillette, a funky tripey sausage grilled properly and accompanied by a mound of crisp fries and another little bit of green. For dessert, Cathey had a flan-like citrus cream chock full of orange zest and I had the floating island topped with shaved, roasted almonds. With a demi of rosé (properly presented in a bucket of ice) and coffee for me at the end, out total bill came to 33 euros. We'll bring friends. Often.
