Reviews on European food in Bielefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Set on a pass between the northern and southern sections of the Teutoburg Forest, Bielefeld is home to about 325,000 people. Sparrenberg Castle, one of the main attractions, dates from the 13th century, as do the Altstädter Nicolaikirche (St. Nicholas' Church) and the Neustädter Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church). The city also figures prominently in the Bielefeld Conspiracy, a German internet joke that the town does not actually exist, but is rather an elaborate alien or government conspiracy.

This restaurant is situated in the middle of a residential area not far from the city center and close to the hotel we were staying in. Not having much time left on the evening of our arrival we planned our visit to this restaurant in advance.Vahle has a typical German old fashioned interior with some nice details in the decoration. Choice of dishes is quite large. We had a starter and a main course. The presentation of the dishes surprised us positively. We really enjoyed the food.Service is good as well. They always keep an eye on you. So, you aren't left waiting if you would like another drink.Only downside I could mention is that there were few customers (4 tables). But then again, as said we were there quite late and it was a weekday. If you're looking for a little bit upscale typical German cuisine, this is your place in Bielefeld.

We came here with our family on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Lunch served was ok. The shared platter with Italian dishes was nice. For children they had some basic courses, which are always greatly appreciated. For adults we had 'skrei', which was average. The saffron sauce was very watery. The lamb was very nice though. Well prepared and tender.

Wait until you get in here! You're about to be surprised big time. This old church has been re-decorated into a very nice restaurant. It's old glass in lead windows, the huge ceilings are impressive. The garden is also very cool and inviting you to take a seat.We didn't have much time to stay and took a quick lunch, which in turn was excellent. The staff is very professional and gives you the feeling you're very welcome. For me a MUST SEE for everybody who visits Bielefeld

Good food, nice atmosphere, fast and friendly service, weekly changing week menu with seasonal dishes in addition to the summer/winter menu. The cocotte is really good, always creative. Also the pasta dishes are not the usual stuff you get everywhere else. This could be your next favorite restaurant.

This was our first visit since the refurbishment, and it has been well done. The service and food quality was fine, however whist sitting in the restaurant there was a reluctance to serve items from the bar menu along side the restaurant menu, I feel that a mix and match should always be available as one of our friend dietary needs were only available from the bar menu.

We went here last Saturday. We had a booking upstairs and had a lovely time. A couple of our group had Wiener schnitzel and I had the roast schweinbraten which was delicious. My friend from Bielefeld had the Schweinhaxe which looked great. The staff was friendly and efficient.

Having lived on the Rock of Gibraltar for four plus years and having travelled extensively in mainly southern Spain, we know authentic tapas! On that basis I can heartily recommend both the cuisine and the ambience of this restaurant. The restaurant is very popular so make sure you book first. Like a lot of restaurants in Germany there is both an indoor and outdoor seating option depending on the weather. When we went it was a hot day and we sat indoors right by the sliding doors. The service is good the tapas is downright tasty! So tasty in fact that I would say it is the best tapas I have eaten outside of Spain. The menu is large and there will be someting to delight everyone. It's a great place to meet and eat with friends.

I had a lovely dinner with clients here recently, and it was a very lovely experience. The fish was excellently prepared, and though I was totally satisfied with my own selection, I couldn't help casting a longing glance at everyone else's plate. Though we sat outside - the weather was wonderful - I did get a look inside the restaurant proper with its open kitchen. Definitely worth a repeat visit!

We went out for dinner with some wine in a group of three. As it was freezing cold, we took a seat in the inside. The decoration was meant to be Spanish-Italian-general Mediterranean. The efforts were not sufficient for converting the medieval local German building into the Mediterranean café. We sat on rather narrow tables. The food on offer sounded good, but after the large starter platter for sharing, three main courses and desserts, we still felt hungry. By the time the bill arrived we could make ourselves familiar with their rather steep prices. We spent almost £30 per person (some 35â¬) on food and a glass of wine each, so I would hope to feel satisfied (or drunk at least). The orders in more detail: the wine was nice with prices suggesting excellent. I had the red housewine (light-ish Spanish red) which is good, but does not come with strong flavours. The starters were of good quality and served in small ramekin like pots. In general, the food was very salty but they still managed to produce a balanced taste. The main courses came without sides. The two meat portions looked very small and were confirmed as about 3 oz plus sauce. I had the fish-of-the-day which was a swordfish filet (estimated 4 or 5 oz) served without sauce but with some salad. The fish was fried with thyme and quite a bit of salt. This produced a nice texture and good flavours, but again the salt was at the upper boundary (personally, I'd do more thyme, less salt). The salt on the salad was just too much (it could do with some dressing rather than just salt and oil). The strong food was just too much for the light-ish housewine. Desserts were served in small ramekins again and were okay.In sum, the place is good for some (expensive) nibbles and drinks. It is not the place for taking someone out for dinner or starting an evening out with food.

As a Greek, I was absolutely pleased there! Not too posh, not ridiculous! The staff is amazingly friendly and polite! Wine selection is very good, and they offer ouzo! Big portions, as with every dish they bring a variety of starters for free. They should just add some vegetarian food, but if you ask for it, they do assemble amazing dishes! They even helped us find a taxi immediately, as we were on a hurry!!! Everything excellent!
