The Restaurante Chuquitos was within walking distance from our hotel so based on the reviews, we gave it a try. It sits overlooking the river, so the ambiance is nice. It took us a while to get a menu, even though the restaurant was empty. It appeared that there was only one waitress, who also manned the front desk for their Cabana business. When she finally had some time, she took our drink order at the same time as she took our dinner order and both arrived at about the same time. They could probably sell more beer if they took the drink order first, then the dinner order a little later. Just a suggestion. Dinner was actually very good. We all had Churrasco, which is a traditional steak dish with two fried eggs, (on top of the steak) and French fries. The portion size was generous and much more than we could eat.
Our speciality are Hamburgers, really good ones with premium meet, and exelent quality.
Excelente

La Carmela is a warm and chilled coffee restaurant with a wide range of artesanal beers, few wines and amazing homemade licuors. Meals are always fresh, handmade, trying to use as much as possible local ingridients and mainly vegetarian, although we do ha

Two couples dined here and had great food, reasonable prices. The Chef salad included ham wrapped around cheese laid out in a design on top on the lettuce. Portions except for the quesadilla were huge. My friend and I enjoyed the Goulash, the beef was excellent and the tirasmisu decadent- made with lots of whipping cream. My friend and I returned for the second night and received even larger portions. Service was excellent the first night and a bit slower the second because there is only 1 waiter. The owner chef is German.

Fight on the riverfront is Cafe Tortuga, a favorite foreigner hangout. This small cafe's charm comes from its attentive staff and simple, good food, including sweet and savory crepes, large sandwiches, soups, avocado stuffed with chicken or cheese, and be
On our way to the Eastern border, we stopped by this last bastion of Civilization (Tena). The colorful town offers plenty of surprises at every corner. One of them: Cafe Tortuga. Located just across the observation tower (where the Tena and Pano rivers merge). It has a typical Ecuadorian decor, all themed by their name: Turtle. I was startled by their Tortuga breakfast. It is kind of a rough Guacamole, with white-cheese cubes. I had to have it! (always looking for something new). It was stupendous. A blanket recommendation, for those looking to set away from the traditional bacon, egg & cheese. Note: Those used to fast paced, big cities, may resent the small-paced service at the restaurant.
