I have had their pies twice and burgers once â both visits we had to fight through absurd evening traffic on 24th/23rd street from Highway 58. After the pies I got on my first trip, I HAD to stop again for more -- and also try the burgers. The building is free-standing and could possibly look very similar to what it looked like 70 years ago. Itâs on the corner and there is plenty of parking on the streets. The interior is tiny (seating for fewer than 20?) and the walls have lots of family photos. Our burgers came out very quickly and were properly medium rare. The bacon was decent bulk bacon, but definitely not top quality thick cut. The burger was likely fresh meat and hand-patted. The garden stuff was fresh, but the pickles were Bread & Butter (I donât like sweet pickles). I ordered the Ortega chili bacon cheeseburger which was $2 more than the regular bacon cheeseburger. Trying both, side-by-side, $2 is too much for just the hunk of canned chili that is too mild to make much difference in the final product. The bun was average and didnât stand out as they do at Sammyâs in Las Vegas (great!) or at Wishing Well in Dolan Springs, AZ (terrible). We also had Jackâs potatoes with are home fries with cheese; nicely done with crispy edges, but rather salty. The pies are not flashy, but they are fairly expensive at $25/each. I have had Banana Cream, Chocolate Cream, Peanut Butter Cream, âJackâsâ PB & Chocolate Cream and Coconut Cream. They all have a wonderfully-rich custard and a terrific crust that is thin but dense enough to stay lightly crisp. The whipped cream is dense and fairly decent, but thinner in height than âbig cityâ pies. I donât know if they make any other types. Each visit, I get pies for gifts and each gift is met with âhomemade pie!â the moment the see the pie.If I return, I would hope to meet Grandma again, who is far more personable than the lady we met on the 2nd visit who is far more âbusinessâ than âfriendly.â

For more than 65 years Denny's has been bringing people together over great food. It's the place where people can relax and be themselves; where they can enjoy classic American comfort food and everyday value. 24 hours a day. 365 days a year. Here, you ca
I ate at Denny's this morning. I had the 55+ omelet (2 eggs) and it was good, stuffed and topped with sauteed onions, diced tomatoes, bacon and cheddar cheese! It also came with hash browns and toast, everything a growing senior needs. Add a cup of coffee, and it was a very good breakfast! Service was very good too, even though they were very crowded. 4.5 stars

Six family members went her for breakfast and all of us enjoyed what they ordered. From French toast to pancakes to scrambles to biscuits and gravy, all was delicious! The staff was friendly and attentive and itâs quiet enough to carry on a conversation. And the coffee was great! We will definitely return!

Stopped for lunch, great food, massive portions, friendly staff. An interesting old style diner, no beers available, but you can drink at the bar and apparently have your meal there.

My husband and I needed some coffee as we were passing through Bakersfield. I looked up cafes on TA and this wonderful place popped up first as having the best coffee in the area. Well their coffee is good, but their breakfast is the best. So many choices for breakfast it was hard to order. The food was deeelicious!! Large portions for an excellent price. The service - especially Donna Kaye herself - was very prompt and so friendly. Wish I lived closer, so I could eat here more often.

Diners dotted along highways big and small is part of Americana. They filled the needs of a mobile society. On this day stopped by Bakersfield for gas and just came across this place which was much less crowded than the Hodel's country dining.Lunch was Ruben's sandwich with a clam chowder $11.50.Filling though the soup slightly on salty side, and sandwich slightly more greasy.Overall it was ok lunch stop. Service was sufficient.

My husband and I visited the old Woolworthâs to browse around the antique shop, that use to be the store part! We were surprised that the diner area was still in business!! We ordered hamburgers and fries with soda for our drinks! The hamburgers were big , juicy and piled with all the old fashion condiments. Tomato, lettuce, onion and pickles! Made fresh , behind the barstool area. Booths were still there for our comfort! Like stepping back in time!!

Whether you want a kickstart to your day or wind down after a hard dayâs work. the Black Bear Diner in Bakersfield has exactly what you need. Our restaurant provides a comfortable, home-like feel that will keep you coming back over and over. We invite you
Was greeted with a friendly smile. Seated right awsy. The server came right over and took beverage order. I hadn't been here for a while. Prices went up like everywhere else. Went with two friends. Food was ok. Nothing special. Food the prices, there's other restaurants I'd rather spend my money at.

Omg. Checked all the reviews out. Decided to try it ourselves. The reviews donât lie. Two people could eat one chicken fried steak breakfast and still take home some. Putting portion size aside. The food was super good. Biscuits flaky, check. Gravy rich and smooth, check. Scrambled eggs the real deal, check. Home fries with onion and green pepper , check. Chicken fried steak crisp moist and tender ,check. What more do you want to know. This place is worth the out in industrial area drive !

Been coming here for 20+ years since my parents moved to town, itâs my favorite spot in Bakersfield as you are never let down. Scratch made food, efficient friendly staff, something for everyone. Fried trout and eggs with biscuits and gravy in the side is my go to, I try to order other things, sometimes I do, I love that corn dusted crispy trout dipped in egg yolk. I have enjoyed many a great sandwich, burger, even salmon, and never had a mediocre let alone bad meal. I have shared most of the menu with friends and family, pancakes, French toast, meat loaf, tuna sandwich, spinach salad, the list goes on and on. I donât know how so huge a menu can be so universally good. The food is sourced from local farms when possible and organic ingredients when possible, a rare thing in this less than progressive town where cheap wins out over quality in most places. You can also really get to know Bakersfield by coming here. You will see lawyers, judges, bankers, teachers, oil workers, mechanics, couples, dates, families, everyone comes here. Weekend breakfast can be a long wait, but usually you can sneak in with a minimal wait. They close at 2pm I believe and lunch is less busy. If you can save room home made desserts which will more than satisfy. This is a great spot and would succeed anywhere.
