We had Mika Guisse as our tour guide during our entire 2021 Senegal and The Gambia trip. He was magnificent. He is so knowledgeable, patient and informative. He made sure our group got to experience so much more than what we would have on our own or with another tour guide. He got us to Goree Island, Kunta Kinteh Island, a Fulani Village where we were welcomed and got to meet the Chief, The Museum of Black Civilization, The Renaissance Monument, Senegalese wrestling, ATV riding and so much more. He even took us to the clinic to get our mandatory COVID-19 test which was needed to travel between Senegal and The Gambia and then back to the clinic to get the test again which was needed to travel back to the US. And the cost for the test was so inexpensive, we really got a bargain. He also took us to the marketplace to do some last minute shopping before our flights back home. We felt so safe with Mika because everywhere we went, everyone knew and respected him. Our group nicknamed Mika the Mayor of Dakar. Any questions you have about anything in Senegal or The Gambia, Mika is the best person for answers. Do yourself a favor and book with Mika and his team.

Lamine was absolutely amazing! He was so knowledgeable, very passionate historian and educator. He was very patient and took his time answering thoroughly. I’ve visited and he was able to accommodate German, French and English translations of the history of the region. He was very clear about his own personal journey and Senegal and was able to give a very critical thought for perspective on culture, politics, globalization and then As well religion and the relationship between humanity and philosophies of economic development. He demonstrated humility, humor, patience, and fortitude with designing our tour schedule to accommodate flexibility And difficulty with my luggage. He made excellent food recommendations, and was also able to take pictures and facilitate taking pictures with the locals. Because he is well known for his good standing in the urban and suburban community, and the tourism sector, it was very easy to be the guests that he was helping and many people bargained with us with even more rigor because of our connection to him. Very much so I appreciate all of the care, the history, the passion, the knowledge that was demonstrated and it really helped us to assimilate into Senegalese culture on a very short trip. I am honored and so is my mother. When he grabbed us from Magic land, and the way that he introduced himself and explained how everything was going to work, I knew from that moment that we were in very good hands and very good company. I cannot wait to come back. Jerejef maitre! On y va a la gare la prochaine.

This is a wonderful option to get away from the city a bit. This one-hour drive from downtown Dakar offers great views of rural life. This full-day tour experience is designed to give you a mixed taste of the city from animals to culture and adventure. It all starts with an early visit to where you have a chance to spot Rhinos, Zebras, Giraffes, Buffaloes, etc...on a private 4WD safari Jeep along with a professional safari guide. After the visit, we will proceed for a one-hour drive to the pink lake, 10 times saltier than the Atlantic Ocean. Very interesting to see how men harvest the salt from the lake and women unload it from the boat and pile it up. You will also be given the opportunity to visit a traditional Fulani village, meet with the chief and interact with the locals. Picture opp and possibility to swim in the designated swimming area.
Inclusions: Air-conditioned vehicle, Private transportation, All Fees and Taxes, Lunch

Oumar is an AMAZING professional! You’re lucky if you can ever find a guide who has both this much energy and knowledge about his topic. His English is excellent, his driver is competent and qualified, and this is a PRIVATE TOUR (wasn’t clear to me when booking, you have his undivided attention). If you have specific needs, sites you want to visit (or not) let him know and he will adjust the tour for you. I have a special diet and cannot eat most foods, and Oumar got me a bag of fresh fruits. Not interested in churches or mosques so we skipped them. Everyone on Goree Island knows him, and he thoughtfully advised on how to interact with the locals as they try to sell me stuff. Try the local Baobob drink. It’s sweet, you’ll love it!

The twin village of Joal and Fadiout are about 110km south of Dakar at the end of tar road that runs along the coast. Joal the birth place of the first president ( Leopold Senghor) is on the mainland while Fadiout is on a small island reached by a long wooden bridge. The island of Fadiout is composed entirely of oyster and clam shell that have been deposited over the centuries. The village of Fadiout covers the island and everything is made of shells. They cover the maze of narrow streets and are embedded the walls of the houses. The centre has a definite charm. The citizens of Joal and Fadiout are rightly proud of their religions tolerance. Christians and muslims live in harmony there, with Fadiout’s shrines to the virgin Mary and large church complemented by an equally large Mosque. The overall feel is one of harmony , and Fadiout has a very relaxed atmosphere. A huge ancient shell mound is reached by another woden bridge and is home to both a Christian and muslim cemetery.

Eric was an amazing guide! I highly recommend him, as he was super friendly and great company on our excursion to Bandia Reserve. I recommend that you reach out to him first before booking as he offers highly customizable experiences that will meet your needs and wants during your visit to Dakar. One of many highlights was after tasting the monkey bread fruit from the Baobab tree, on our way back he purchased us a bottle of the juice. I wish we had more time to take in the rest of the city and surrounding area with him, as he was able to tell us a out each building as we drove through the city to the reserve.
