Puerto Madryn is protected by the Golfo Nuevo, which is formed by Península Valdés and Punta Ninfas, and is one of the most sheltered places on the Patagonian coast. With five kilometers of beaches bordering the city, Puerto Madryn is the gateway to many other attractions in Argentina. Top among them is Valdes Peninsula Nature Reserve, a UNESCO heritage site since 1999.

In the southern direction of the mouth of the new gulf, 75 km from Puerto Madryn, there is Punta Ninfas, the first stop where you can see the breeding sites of elephants and sea lions, we will continue the path to El Pedral, an authentic Patagonian stay helmet, which It constitutes a museum in itself. After visiting the interior of the house we will go to the Magellan penguin colony, a guided tour between their nests will allow them to get to know these animals better. At noon you will have a delicious Patagonian roast lamb accompanied by salads, side dishes and house wine. During the afternoon you can enjoy the stay that has a swimming pool, board games or walk around with beautiful landscapes, as well as take walks around the property or have tea with Welsh black cake before going back

Not worth it, I'm afraid. Too expensive to get to see just one of the glaciers, the Spegazzini one. (The Upsala glacier can only be seen from afar, as it's deemed too risky to approach). The journey was too long and quite uncomfortable (the ferry I took was the Quo Vadis). Too many people travelling. The ferry was 80% full in Covid times, which I found unsensible and irresponsible. We could not choose where to sit or change seats afterwards. The Spegazzini refuge is partly open. You can take a (rather short) walk in the woods, but the café/restaurant/toilet area is (still) closed and looks quite derelict. I've taken other tours in the area (Perito Moreno Glacier/ Canal Beagle/Full day at Chalten) and they were less expensive, better organised and far more enjoyable than this one.

We leave early in the morning to the Peninsula Valdés Protected Natural Area. After an hour's journey we arrive at Puerto Pirámides, where we embark (no included) for sighting of sea lions and cormorants (between the months of January and February). Then we go to Estancia San Lorenzo, a traditional livestock establishment in the area where in addition to having lunch (not included) a typical Patagonian lamb at the grill, we will have the opportunity to visit the largest Magellan penguin reserve in the world (internal excursion to San Lorenzo tariffed), located 7 kms from the hull of the stay We visit the Punta Norte reserve where, from December, we observe sea lions and eventually killer whales. On the way back we will stop at the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus, where we visit the interpretation center.

We took two tours in Puerto Madryn, one with Argentina Vision to Punta Tombo and the other with Flores to the Valdez Peninsula. The Flores tour, which were took first, was far superior. Perhaps it's unfair to judge the one by the other, but it's impossible not to. The Vision tour was fine... we loved seeing the penguins and the guide was proficient in English and provided some insight into the region and penguins. Additionally, we understand it's difficult to make 5 hours in a van interesting. We did find the guide aloof and robotic in her provision of information. There wasn't much passion for her work or engagement with us. Our chief complaints are as follows: 1) We booked through GetYourGuide (which we found out later marks up the cost 30% - not Vision's fault - just a note to book with your hostel or hotel once you arrive to save money)... but they told us the local operator would contact us. Vision never contacted us so we emailed to confirm the 8:15am pickup we were originally estimated. They wrote back and said it would be 9:45am! If we hadn't emailed them, they would have left us sitting there for 1.5 hours. 2) Related to the previous issue is that we found out that the tour started late to accommodate a pickup at the Trelew airport en route. So, our tour was delayed and shortened with more time off tour at the airport. We had learned from our previous tour guide with Flores that the Punta Tombo tours usually stop a couple of other places to break up the drive, like a traditional Welsh tea house, and we were excited about that option. However, our tour was just drive there, eat overpriced food, walk with penguins for an hour (they were very cute!), and drive back. The whole day was just...ok.

My rating is poor because not only was this entire excursion awful, but the tour guide didn't act like a tour guide. First, the excursion out to Peninsula Valdes was just way too long and we didn't get to see anything. In fact, all of us on the bus stood around for an hour, while the tour guide and 2 passengers "watched" the elephant seals. Mind you, the elephant seals just looked like rocks because you were too far away to actually see anything. The fact that Peninsula Valdes was awful was not the tour company's fault, BUT we did get to go to Puerto Pyramides at the end and it was very pretty, but because we wasted so much time in the other areas (where there was nothing to see) we didn't get much time there. Also, the tour guide did not give specific times of when to be back on the van and did not keep the excursion moving. The fact that 8 people stood around for an hour to leave and she didn't notice was a problem. Then we would ask when we needed to be back onboard and she would say 10 minutes - an hour later we would leave. This was super frustrating. Finally, this tour was expensive and 100% not worth it. The Peninsula was not good at the time of year we went. We basically saw nothing and for 2.5 hour drive (1.5 on gravel), it was a horrible experience and I would not recommend it.

Explore the amazing Peninsula Valdes, a world-heritage site, on this full-day tour from Puerto Madryn. The area is famous for unique animal species since it's a suitable place for them to live and breed. On this day out, you'll be accompanied by both bilingual guides and naturalists. We highly recommend you to opt for a whale watching navigation, to observe whales in their natural habitat (from June to December).

Exclusions: Food and drinks, Whale Watching Navigation (if option selected), Cruise Port pickup and drop-off, Gratuities, Entry/Admission - Peninsula Valdes
We did this as a shore excursion and we booked it directly with El Pedral. The El Pedral team at the Puerto Madryn port were well signed and we found our way to our guide, Rodrigo who directed s to the small 'bus we went touring within. Rodrigo was well spoken and an excellent guide giving us great information on the excursion. We saw some wildlife on the journey to El Pedral property. Our first stop was to observe a small nmber of Elephant Seals laying below our cliff top observation point and then we proceeded to the area of the light house. Then came the reason for our journey - the walk, maybe 1500m or more, to the area where the penguins were located. First we saw moulting birds and then more and more and finally we reached the pebble beach where there were many penguins close to the line of surf. A few walked close to us while we stood upon the beach. After we returned to our bus we went to the El Pedral buildings where we had a lunch which included Argentinian style BBQed lamb and wine. This was the best excursion we have ever been on in our 6 cruises.

We enjoyed spending time watching the seals and sea lions. Our driver was good and our guide was a lovely young lady who spoke excellent English. It was interesting speaking to her and getting an insight into the way of life in Puerto Madryn. The tour itself whilst enjoyable was expensive for what it was.

In this full-day tour, you can enjoy the wonderful wildlife that visits Puerto Madryn every year, making this area of the Patagonia, one of the most important for the reproduction and development of marine fauna. In addition, we will visit a typical Patagonian ranch, ideal to spend the day outdoors, where we will be delighted with a delicious barbecue of Patagonian lamb. The Full Day tour to the countryside and visit to the Penguins Colony "El Pedral" is the perfect excursion for those who want to get a closer encounter with the wildlife that visit the peninsula without traveling many kilometers outside the city.
Inclusions: Lunch, Afternoon tea, Professional guide, Access to the pool, Tour to the Penguin Colony, Tour to Punta Ninfas Lighthouse, Round-trip shared transfer from a meeting point in downtown Puerto Madryn
Exclusions: Gratuities
The boat ride to see the toninas was cheaper to book during the day trip (about a third of rhe online trip advisor option price) and well worth doing as the boat ride itself was comfortable and we saw many toninas. The penguin colony is a must see as this is the largest accessible colony anywhere. Our guide was very good but was let down by not having a working microphone which made listening to her difficult on the often bumpy and noisy minivan drive.
