Top 10 Day Trips from in Hersonissos, Crete

April 11, 2022 Enriqueta Cusson

Sandy, peaceful beaches and ancient ruins beckon travelers to Chersonisos, a one-time Roman port on the island of Crete. This is a family-friendly place, with plenty of activities for kids. The Lychnostatis Open Air Museum gives you the chance to explore the trades and lifestyles of early islanders. Exhibits include a herbarium, olive oil and wine presses and workshops on ceramics, shoe making and weaving. The aquarium showcases local sea creatures, as do the town's many traditional cafes, though in a completely different (and more delicious) manner.

A perfect alternative for people who find Samaria too early or too far. A good balance between hiking and walking. Even children love this adventurous hike. In 2000 we, Eye Travel, discovered a gorge near Hersonissos and started organising tours in small groups (max 20 pers) through this gorge guided by one of the Eye Travel team. This gorge is about 8 km long, takes around 3,5 hours and has some obstacles on the way down. You will see untouched nature, some birds of prey, vultures,... The real Cretan flora and fauna. You can book this tour exclusively with us, Eye Travel. See some of the pictures to get an impression. After the walking/hiking part, we bring you to a traditional taverna, to use the toilet and enjoy a small lunch. The unique change to relax and to share your experience with your guide and the group. This tour is a must when you are on Crete ! Real nature. Rock formation. Discover your own limits.
