Seeing millions of migrating Monarchs congregated at the Sierra Chincua butterfly sanctuary during late February 2020 was, for my wife and I, an event of rare magnificence. Our tour guides, Marta and Alonso, were delightful hosts, responsive to our requests and patient with our woeful lack of Spanish skills. The trip from and to Mexico City took 3.5 to 4 hours each way, so having friendly, knowledgable experts with whom to chat was much appreciated. One caveat: As a 65-year-old coping with a foot issue, I found the hike up to see the butterflies quite strenuous. We rode horses about half the way up, then walked the rest of the way. That part was OK, but we skipped the horses on the way down, figuring that half of the journey would be less tiring. Somehow, though, we seemed to be climbing our way back down, too. Not sure how that worked, but we took a bunch of breaks to rest. I did a lot of research before we left trying to find out difficult the hiking would be, and it was more challenging than I had expected. ... but! We saw mllions of gorgeous butterflies and lived to tell the tales . If you are interested and in decent shape, you'll enjoy an unforgettable experience with some top-notch experts leading the way.

We left Avenida de la República in front of the Julio Jimenez Rueda CDMX Theater, bound for Tula located in the State of Hidalgo, an important archaeological site in Mexico of the Toltec (pre-Aztec) culture. The main attraction of the archaeological site are the famous 4.8-meter (14.7-foot) "Atlanteans", each made from basaltic rock, which guards the top of the Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli Temple or "Morning Star". This is the most important site of the Toltec culture. We continue to the Magical Town of Tepotzotlán located in the State of Mexico, where the majestic National Museum of the Viceroyalty and the Temple of San Francisco Javier are located, inside a Franciscan monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, due to its magnificent decoration of gold bread. Later we will make a panoramic tour of the Tenayuca Archaeological Zone which is believed to have been founded by the Chichimecas of Xólotl in 1250.

We booked this tour based on it's itinerary and reviews. We do enjoy an occasional private tour. We were picked up on time at our hotel. Veronica was our guide and was amazing. We went to a flower market before getting on the floating boat. The ride was lovely. Veronica told us a lot about the city it's history and culture. We went to the Diego Rivera museum which is amazing. Then to the Coyocan market where we grabbed a bite to eat and have some free time. Then the Frida Kahlo museum which is a must see. The driver was excellent, smoothly guiding us around the city. We also stopped at the University which wads fascinating. Veronica is very proud of her city and it shows. Her energy and enthusiasm were palpable. The price for what you get is a real bargain. Highly recommend

We did the 5 hour tour with Alonso as the tour guide. It was very informative and a beautiful experience. Very safe and they take all social distancing precautions. At the time, they only provide private tours and this made me feel very safe. The tour guide gives great historical context of the history of pulque and its existence in pre Hispanic era. We learned a lot of the original food ingredients of the land and the ecosystem the maguey plants provide to other organisms. Definitely a must-do in tepo! A truly beautiful experience to learn and drink the ‘drink of the gods’! (La bebida de los dioses!)

Erhard's professionalism was evident from first contact. He replied quickly and designed an itinerary that perfectly suited my interests. In 6 days we covered 1,000 miles and (owing to Erhard's excellent planning) had plenty of time at every destination: Chichen Itza, beautiful colonial cities, great local food, the jungle ruins at Calakmul, and much more, all expertly explained by Erhard.
