Had the pleasure to meet both Mithoo and her charming husband which to now I’m embarrassed to say his name escapes me . We had a wonderful morning of trying delicious Bengali style croquets with a lovely tea then we got straight to work making a delicious lunch of coconut jumbo prawns , mustard potatoes , poori and list goes on, an absolute feast and then lunch was served the traditional way of eating in courses , followed by an amazing mango chutney with papadams . This had been one of the highlights of my trip . If ever in Calcutta and want to know what real hospitality and real cooking Is take this cooking class.

We were guided by Mario on the tour who was very curt and professional. He waited patiently as well as we were 5 minutes late. The introduction was really good and informational and as it progressed we came to know about a lot of new information. The walk was also a really nice one. It could have been a bit more engaging. Since we were just 2 folks, we had the whole walk to us but the experience was kind of stretchy a few times. Probably some kind of activity could have been introduced. We give it a 4/5. Thanks Anirban

Goa was a Portuguese colony for over four centuries during which there was a strong influence of culture, language, tradition and architecture. All over the state there are beautiful houses which have floor plans and features from what you would observe in Portugal. Most houses have been built with the skill force available locally. Hence each house is a beauty by itself. The walls have seen centuries worth of stories that have led to making it special for us in the current day. We are in the city of Chandrapur which also happens to be the Oldest known capital of Goa. Picture the days gone by where it had armies, fortifications, battles and flourishing trade. Right from the Bhojas to the Silaharas, Chandor was a thriving settlement due to the connectivity that the river Kushavati provided to the travelers. The village is famous for the legend of the Queens curse that was brought upon the village as a result of treachery of the warriors of the kingdom.

Explore this beautiful Island and its star attraction - The Salim Ali Bird sanctuary. We set out on a boat through the backwaters enveloped by the mangrove forest and soon you would be perking up their ears to the sounds of bird life teeming around. Open your senses to nature as you spot birds, crocodiles and various species of Mangroves. There would be learning about the gooing lumps like active little volcanoes all along the pathway were actually mud crabs at work, the loud clickety clicks were the sounds made by fiddler crabs with their large single claws. The Island has more than nature to it right from the Devaki Krishna Temple that had been relocated during the Portuguese rule and a 450 year old Church with numerous stories tied to it.

The Old Goa Heritage Walk revisits some of the most fascinating facts during Portuguese rule. When Old Goa was Goa’s former capital city, it was a thriving city even during prior to Portuguese times. It was the capital of the Bahmani Sultan Adil Shah empire. The Portuguese arrived here in 1510 under their commander Afonso de Albuquerque, and captured the city from Adil Shah, the ruler of the Bijapur Kingdom. They came to the East in search of trade and to eventually spread Christianity. In our Old Goa Heritage Walk, explore the some of the most historically significant buildings. Old Goa is a World Heritage site housing some of most grandest and oldest churches in the region. Among these are the Basilica of Bom Jesus which houses the remains of St. Francis Xavier. The imposing Sé Cathedral, the Church of St Francis of Assisi, the Chapel of St Catherine and the domed church of St. Cajetan.
