March 28, 2022 Terina Blouin

Brittany (/ˈbrɪtəni/; French: Bretagne [bʁətaɲ] ( listen); Breton: Breizh, pronounced [bʁɛjs] or [bʁɛχ]; Gallo: Bertaèyn, pronounced [bəʁtaɛɲ]) is a cultural region in the northwest of France, covering the western part of what was known as Armorica during the period of Roman occupation. It became an independent kingdom and then a duchy before being united with the Kingdom of France in 1532 as a province governed as if it were a separate nation under the crown.

From the moment our tour guide picked us up at the train station, I knew I would love this tour guide! She is funny, knowledgeable and witty. Every place, every corner we visited that day, she explained in detail with historic stories which were easy to understand and remember. Not only we had a fantastic time in Mont Saint Michel with her, she also took us to a local fish port for fresh oysters. When we got to Saint Malo, we bumped into traffic and had a hard time finding a parking space. She wouldn’t want to waste our time, and showed us a direction for us to begin our walk and then she managed to catch up after finding a parking space. My friend and I actually decided not to have a proper lunch in order to save time, and then in Saint Malo, she told us to wait her for a few minutes in the middle of our walk in the town. She showed up with two packs of tasty local cookies she bought us in a famous local store, and told us” because you saved money for me at lunch”. But we know she didn’t have to, which was sweet! A fantastic tour guide can definitely make your day and make your tour wonderful, and she is the one!!!

Brest, France's westernmost city, is wildly different from what you would expect to see in a French city. Vastly destroyed during the war, it takes pride in its special position at the "end of the land" and its lively, quirky people. During this 2 hour tour, we'll go find the culture and the hidden gems that make our city so special. From the Town Hall Plaza to the urban cable cars, we'll be walking through Brest's culture, past and present. We'll learn about its architecture and history, and get a nice introduction to the culture and history of Brittany. It will depart at 10.30am from the Multiplexe Liberté, which is a cinema on the main square (tram stop: Liberté). If you are coming from a cruise, you'll be dropped right in front of the square, the cinema is the rusty looking building on the right. I will be the girl with the little hulahoops on my back!

Inclusions: English and French guides

Exclusions: Ticket for the ride back on the Cable cars, Food and Drink

We are travelling from Australia and have previously visited other countries prior to to France which had amazing service and friendlyness. However 5minutes in France we found them to be rude 10minutes in and they were pushing us, 30minutes and pickpocketed. My advice when you get off the train is get back on and try a different country. Try Ireland, England or even Amsterdam. We are counting down the minutes to get out of this thieving, smelly, rude, dirty country Cheers
