Loved our cooking class with Yamuna today. The class itself was informal, relaxed and informative. We learned how to make coconut milk from scratch as well as cooking a variety of different curries, dahl, rice and coconut sambal. Each element/curry was slightly different and the finished meal was incredible. Some of the best curries we’ve eaten in Sri Lanka (and we’ve been here a month) as well as one of the best dahls. One highlight for us was being able to go to the market with her cousin, who was lovely, to buy the vegetables and fish. We were able to choose whichever vegetables we liked which was great because it meant we got to try some more unusual curries such as banana and mango. We also got to make a fibre root salad as well, an ingredient we hadn’t seen on a menu but very local so we wanted to try. Yamuna was very friendly and you could tell really enjoyed teaching about Sri Lankan cooking... she must do since she’s been doing cooking class for 10 years now! She was also very open to chat with us about culture and her town of Unawatuna which we found fascinating. The kitchen space was also really nice to work in, it was semi outdoors but very clean and well organised. All in all, very good experience and very much recommended to tourists and travellers!

Wanna give your friends a surprise after returning back home..? Dear guests please come and join me for a cooking lesson in my magic kitchen. Rice & Curries in Sri Lanka style.Enjoy you cooking. please call me and reserve.(Just 2-3 hours) Lunch or Dinner. Thanks.
We had a lot of fun with Dudley. He is a fantastic host and great cook. What I loved about this class that he didn’t cook for us, we really did everything ourselves and that’s in my opinion the key to success of really learning and remembering those delicious curries. We were lucky that we had a private lesson as others just didn’t show up. If you consider booking this class over the phone, please show up or at least cancel in advance - it’s just fair.

Me and my siblings booked this as a birthday present for our Mum so a group of 9 of us did it together. It was great fun, we loved learning about the local veg and how to cook them. We cooked so many different interesting dishes - there was something for everyone, the vegans and the meat eaters! The food was delicious and definitely the best meal we had in Sri Lanka. Thank you very much!

Fun, Food & Learn Traditional Sri Lanka food is very enjoyable and world famous, but cooking it yourself adds yet another dimension to the experience. We do cooking classes in Galle at a house located in quiet residential areas just outside the city. Each day of the week there are different menus on training, reflecting the cultural and culinary traditions of Sri Lanka,
I’ve done many cooking classes around the world and this one is possibly the best-ever. Mahdu is a gracious, knowledgeable and eloquent host and really makes sure you participate and learn (and most importantly enjoy the fruits of your labour!) We were impressed that transport was included as was a trip to the vegetable market and fish market (as well as thoughtful extras like tea/coffee, iced water and a surprise dessert). The class takes place in a fit-for-purpose annexe to Madhu’s home and so also provides a window into Sri Lankan home life. The dishes we made were numerous and so delicious (hot tip - skimp on your breakfast so you have more room for the 10+ dishes you will cook!) You won’t regret this experience!
