Can thoroughly recommend Canggu Cooking Retreat and Street Food Tours in Denpasar. If you want to immerse yourself in traditional Balinese food, eating in Warungs, seeing the "other side" of Bali, meeting wonderful people and experiencing Balinese culture up close and personal, then contact Kadek. A most knowledgeable and welcoming guide. You will get to eat many and varied dishes from Babi Guling, Soto Ayam, Eel to delicious hand made desserts in the night markets. We really appreciated being taken to Kadek's family compound and meeting his welcoming family and seeing their temples. Definitely a side to Bali that most travellers wouldn't get to experience. Thank you Kadek for everything and I will be back again for sure.

Besides spending all your day in the villa or hitting the beach, I can highly recommend this for people who would like to learn a bit more about Balinese cuisine. Growing up living in the Philippines, I discovered that our country and Indonesia share a few things in common and I loved that I learned that during the cooking class. The chefs arrived in our villa on time and were very prepared to teach us new things about Balinese cuisine. It was great that although I am a terrible cook, they were very very patient with us and they were eager to teach us.

I 'forced' my husband to come with me to this class but we both had an amazing time and it was worth every penny. The venue is stunning and authentic; you feel like you're in another world. Sri and Iboe Soelastri were excellent teachers. It was a very hands on class and we cooked everything from scratch. You choose five dishes you'd like to make from an extensive menu, and if your favourite Indonesian dish is not listed they are happy to accommodate. We chose sate lilit, sambal goreng udang, lawar kacang panjang, opor ayam and sambal bajak. Wow! What a feast!! Every dish had its own distinctive amazing flavour. We couldn't finish it all and they were happy to package up the leftovers for us to take home. It was all a very special experience. Highly recommended without hesitation.

I am Indonesian, from Makassar, Sulawesi. My grandmother taught me how to cook when I was a little girl. Makassar food tends to be spicy but I can customize it for each audience.
