Think you need an ocean for a beach? Think again. There are miles and miles of sandy lakefront beaches in Michigan (thanks to the four Great Lakes that border it). The west coast of Michigan has especially nice beaches—try a rental in Muskegon, Grand Haven or Saugatuck. You won’t need a car when visiting Mackinac Island. In fact, they’re not allowed—this lovely Victorian resort town is pedestrian-only.

I'm Anne Boulley and my business is Artisanne. When I create food I make sure I use the best ingredients available. I don't use bleached flour, fake vanilla, margarine, shortening, etc. Otherwise I'm not much different than the box stores am I? No, I want my treats to be a real treat, something you feel good about indulging in. Artisanne means a female artisan and that's what I am. I toast the nuts, brown the butter and scrape the vanilla bean. I travel to out of the way shops to find special ingredients that make things even more outstanding. I also use local gmo-free produce and grocery items as much as possible. Why? Because I believe in the art of what I do. It reflects my desire to create something so beautiful and delicious that you remember it and want to share it with others.

I bought my brother a cooking class for Christmas and we attended today an Italian Pasta Sauces workshop. The class was wonderful and made everyone from all different skill levels feel comfortable. The chef instructor kept everyone involved without putting anyone on the spot and we learned 5 different types of sauces. The variety of different types was great and the food tasted delicious. I’ve already signed up for my next class!
