Upstairs at the Western is Leicester's first pub theatre which programmes two seasons (Spring and Autumn) of brave, engaging and inspiring performances of theatre, comedy, spoken word, music and workshops. Home to Off the Fence Theatre Company.
Had many a hilarious night at the comedy here. Please keep it going it is so appreciated. Decent beers in the pub are worth a mention too making for a good nigh all round.

Opened in 1900, The Y is the oldest and only surviving Victorian theatre in Leicester. A bustling live performance venue based in Leicester city centre, our eclectic programme includes music, comedy, theatre, dance and spoken word. Our 300 seat theatre also comfortably hosts candle-lit cabaret style events and standing gigs. In recent years The Y has established itself as one of the main venues in the city for comedy and has host many well known names from around the world. Performers such as Danny Baker, John Bishop, Jimmy Carr, Michael McIntyre and Daniel Kitson have taken to the Stage and every February The Y plays a major role as a busy venue during the Leicester Comedy Festival.
I have spent most of my life living in Leicester but for some reason had never been until recently for the Leicester comedy festival. The venue is a little gems of a theatre and it was fantastic for the comedy.

Two recent visits were excellent; the first Around the World In Eighty Days (how did they do it with minimal props and actors) and the second yesterday afternoon with John Shuttleworth. Now we'll look at our blue light kettle in a different light! Cannot wait to go back to the Little Theatre for the other productions we have booked with them over the coming months. Thanks to all the staff and everyone on the stage.

We travelled here to see Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott on Monday and what a great venue this is. We have been to many concerts this year all many venues and this has to be one of the best. The staff were all very friendly and everything worked smoothly from security to getting a drink and being shown to our seats. We will defiantly travel here for future concerts as it was such a great evening. We parked in the car park opposite which was reasonably priced and every convenient.

Visited as a couple for the 'After Hours' event at the end of Jan. A great bar situated in Leicesters cultural quarter, with a relaxing, intimate vibe. The cocktails we tried were great, as was the service from the bar staff. The music, provided by live DJ's throughout the night also made for a fantastic atmosphere. We are looking forward to the next event and hope to drop in for some drinks between now and then!

Went to the televised showing of a live New Model Army 40th anniversary concert on Saturday, (40 years and 1 day after their first concert!) The Musician hosted the evening, with also a couple of live acts performing behind a perspex shield, with guests in family-groups on tables spaced well-apart, and with screens between them. COVID safety was a real priority. The atmosphere was lovely - despite the COVID rules - and the 2 live acts were also brilliant. The live-stream of New Model Army was brilliant - as these guys always are!! However the live-stream experience was in truth not that great due to some IT issues, (which may well have been nothing to do with the venue). But the overall evening was really lovely, and we'll always remember the "Blitz spirit" keeping venues like this alive, and keeping Live music Live. We came away from the evening with a lovely feeling, and to be absolutely honest, after a while we didn't even "see" the COVID rules, and the friendly and thoughtful host had made sure that everyone had a brilliant time. We felt a little sad that the venue took a fraction of what they'd have taken if the event was packed at usual levels - and I worry that this sort of place can stay open. The land-lord / host was such a nice guy - and drinks were reasonably priced and great quality, (we had a couple of bottles of nice red wine for £11 each - which went down very agreeably !!) The host gently, kindly, and respectfully made sure everyone wore masks whilst not in their seats, and generally did a brilliant job of making everyone feel at home - and the overall vibe of the place was brilliant. Places like The Musician are what keeps Live music alive - so anyone reading this revue, please visit The Musician, because without places like this, live music will become just a memory; acts need somewhere to play. Headlining acts will always find venues - but there won't be new acts coming through without venues like these - so keep up the good work, you guys at The Musician, and thanks for a lovely night out!! Final thought: New Model Army was a struggling new act on their first gig just over 40 years ago. Yes, they can pack arenas and do sell-out tours now, but if venues hadn't been around to allow unproven acts 40 years ago, and I'm guessing NMA wasn't polished then as they are now; without places like The Musician, these headlining acts might never have got off the ground!!
