Virginia can make American history come alive. Visit Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, tour Civil War battlefields, explore the living history museum at Williamsburg… the possibilities are endless (if the kids object, break up the historical sightseeing with a visit to Busch Gardens). Arlington, site of Arlington National Cemetery, is just across the Potomac River from all the major sites in D.C. In addition to beaches and historical attractions, Virginia has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Active families will love the Blue Ridge Highlands, where hiking, canoeing and tubing are just a few of the activities offered. Couples might enjoy a romantic mountain cabin in Virginia after a day of hiking in Shenandoah National Park.

The Harvester Performance Center is Southwest Virginia's best concert venue, as voted by the readers of Virginia Living Magazine. The Harvester hosts over 150 concerts per year in a renovated tractor dealership and hardware store upfitted with an amazing $300,000 sound system, comfortable seats and great atmosphere for live music of all genres from national touring artists. Some nights host two concerts, one in the main room and one in our more intimate Landing Pad stage. Nearly 200 parking spaces are available within 500 feet of the entrance, including private spaces at Carter Bank & Trust and Cox's, public farming across the street at the Farmers Market and nearby public lots, and on street. Come early, eat and shop in Rocky Mount and dance the night away with great music at the Harvester!
This is a great venue to see excellent live music. Would recommend paying a little extra for the gold section so you can sit up front. It is open seating, and some will line up very early. The do have a bar and snacks.

Saw the Lion King with the family, and escaped the oppressive heat of the day at the beach! Cinema was full - recommend buying tickets (with reserved seats) online. They’ll scan your phone so you don’t need printed tickets. We ended up sitting on the very 1st row (packed house), and it wasn’t bad. Every seat is a recliner, and is extremely comfortable. You can almost lay flat! Tickets are cheap, food is expensive (but very good). Parents, if your kids can’t be quiet, take them out of the theater. Everyone paid to see the movie. There were some not great parents in this one, but we still had fun. Highly recommend!

Got last minute tickets for a 3rd show that they added for Kountry Wayne. Even though the 11:45 p.m. show started late. I believe around 12:30 p.m. It was worth the wait. We laughed so hard. The host was funny, the open comedian was funny and the headliner was hilarious. Our food for the most part was o.k. we got wing platter 3 ways. The small pieces of chicken was dry and over cooked but the other 2 were O.K. My drink was really good. I would love to see them update their system of checking ID's, scanning tickets (which they don't, they have a list) and seating you a little quicker. But over all had a fun time.
