Top 10 Coffee & Tea Tours in Tokyo, Kanto

June 13, 2021 Roger Rusk

Tradition collides with pop culture in Tokyo, where you can reverently wander ancient temples before rocking out at a karaoke bar. Wake up before the sun to catch the lively fish auction at the Tsukiji Market, then refresh with a walk beneath the cherry blossom trees that line the Sumida River. Spend some time in the beautiful East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, then brush up on your Japanese history at the Edo-Tokyo Museum. Don’t forget to eat as much sushi, udon noodles, and wagashi (Japanese sweets) as your belly can handle.

My daughter-in-law and I attended a Japanese tea ceremony followed by a visit to a tea house and a sweets shop. The normal tea house they use was filled so our experience took place at a personal home with two rooms set aside for the tea ceremony. Our guide met us at the train station in kimono and we walked to the home where another woman had everything prepared. We loved watching and learning. The ceremony was like a dance or like watching someone perform yoga. We both had an opportunity to whisk the matcha and Morgan went through the entire procedure. The guides were wonderful and gave great information as well as answering all our questions. A very enjoyable 2 hours and highly recommended for anyone visiting Tokyo.

Our tour will take you through the charming area of Yanaka, filled with nostalgia and rustic charm. Our tour will offer you a sightseeing opportunity different from the “big city” feel of other parts of Tokyo. Yanaka was one of the few areas that survived the Great Kanto Earthquake and Fire of 1923 and was spared the Allied fire bombings during WWII. An afternoon stroll down the tiny side streets that dissect the area south of Nippori Station will highlight the diversity of craft still being produced in the area: textiles, ink prints, wood carvings, traditional cuisines, stationery, pottery, jewelry, and much more. You will have the chance to try local street snacks, stop by shops that are over 100 years old, see local shrines and temples and enjoy a regional and seasonal lunch, before ending with a traditional tea ceremony with Wagashi (traditional Japanese sweet). By the end of this lovely tour, you will have tried a lot of different Japanese dishes and drinks that locals LOVE!

Had a great time with our lovely tour guide. We started off in a building that sells collectibles, which we wouldn't have known about if it wasn't for our guide. After that, we headed off to a maid café where we got ourselves some lovely dessert in the shape of bears and bunnies. The chocolate latté was amazing! Really friendly maids despite not being able to speak English. Took some pictures with the maids and then continued to a nearby gaming hall where we dressed up for some purikura shots. We got good information about the Akihabara area and Japanese culture in general. Interesting to speak to a Japanese person about life in Japan. Overall a really great tour which I would recommend!

Yoshi was a great tour guide. He tells a lot of stories and takes you to your desired places and then some. We went to the National Gardens, stopped to say hi to Hachiko, and went to the Chiku Chiku Cafe. The Hedgehogs were so cute! They're usually nocturnal and the one I was visiting, Butter, was really tired and wanted to sleep so I only took a couple pictures and let him rest the rest of the time :) Take care Yoshi! Hope you have more fun adventures

10. Tsukiji and Asakusa - 2 major complex

Tsukiji Hongwan-ji, 3-chōme-15-1 Tsukiji, Chuo City, Tokyo 104-0045, Japan Gucci Hiroshi Yamaguchi

At teahouse there, you can drink powdered Japanese tea (Matcha), used at tea ceremony. Asakusa is traiditonal fancy town, and you are looking for Japanese traditional items as suvenior (folding fan, Chopstick, wind bell Japanese lantern and so on), it has big shopping street good enough for you. Then you can see Sensouji temple, very If you have an interest in wearing Japanese traditional clothes (Kimono), you can use the service of rental kimono (3000 yen).
