Budget-minded travelers will appreciate Phnom Penh's reasonably priced hotel rooms (several top-rated hotels on TripAdvisor offer rooms around $40/night). Explore the city's temples, palaces, and the remnants of its French colonial history. Just outside the city, the The Killing Fields (Choeung Ek) are a reminder of Cambodia's tragic past-- a somber contrast to the booming city of today.

Enjoy the unique Khmer culture and experience something different on your visit to Phnom Penh. You will learn how to cook three authentic dishes of your choice. The Feel Good Cooking School is run by two young chefs, with more than 4 years experience as a Khmer food expert and cooking teacher. Our school is a social enterprise under Feel Good Cafe, focused on training, employing and empowering Cambodian youth to run their own sustainable, responsible businesses.
We had a completely amazing time - the chef who hosted us had very good English and 10 years cooking experience. We started off by deciding which meals we were to make with our fellow classmates and then set off to the market to source the ingredients. At the market he let us taste a few unfamiliar Cambodian fruits in addition to the ingredients we sought. He also went into great detail when describing the various fruits and vegetables we came across. We felt that he invested a lot of effort to immerse us in our Cambodian food experience. The cooking was really well instructed and the dishes were totally delicious. Couldn’t recommend more!!

This is a lovely arts school supported by an NGO - students learn traditional dance, drawing, music and more. I found it by chance while staying at the Okay Boutique Hotel opposite and it's down a tiny alley opposite the hotel entrance. I now visit each time I'm in Cambodia. It's very authentic and not designed as a tourist attraction. That's one aspect that makes it appealing to me. I wish the hotel could promote it more as I'm sure guests would enjoy watching the morning sessions and performances to which public are invited for a small donation (I've never seen more than a handful there). Check the schedule to ensure you're there at the time the students are not in their private classes. There is a lovely gift shop selling some of the art by the students plus scarves and jewelry. There is a little stage with seating and visitors may request a tour of the other rooms and classes if convenient with the teaching schedule. It can get very hot, despite fans but the rooftop bar at the Okay Boutique Hotel opposite is close for a cool escape if needed (and fabulous views!). Students and staff are always welcoming and it's a joy to see young Cambodian artists proud of the country's traditions, busy with their studies and eager to share Cambodian culture with the world!

Cooking classes, food tours and private dining experiences in the heart of Phnom Penh. Experience authentic Khmer cuisine, and learn about Cambodian culture from local chef Veasna Kay. Veasna in the Kitchen doesn’t offer your average Cambodian food tour. Our private dining experiences are the perfect opportunity to treat your taste buds to the true flavours of Cambodia. Or, if you’d like a more ‘hands-on’ experience, we offer a cooking class and food tour where you can learn to prepare simple, healthy Khmer dishes that are, most importantly, delicious! Cooking classes and dining experiences are typically held in our spacious, air-conditioned apartment overlooking the Tonle Sap River in the center of Phnom Penh. We want you to feel like you’re visiting friends, not going on a tour. Or, if you have a special venue in mind, we can come to you. Veasna is a trained, professional chef with a passion for great food, and for sharing that food with visitors to Cambodia. This is your chance to have dinner cooked by a skilled chef, specifically tailored to meet your tastes. You won’t find a friendlier chef, offering a more tailored private dining menu or cooking class!

We were looking for something different to do in Phnom Penh, and discovered this tucked away little funky art studio, and wanted to do pottery! For us$30 each we spent 2 hours being guided on the basics of the pottery wheel and clay. It’s easy, but also not easy! But a LOT of fun. Cant wait to see what our pieces look like when they are dry Apparently not many tourists go here, mostly locals. Highly recommend it if you’re looking for something different!

Guests who hunger to learn about Khmer cuisine can enroll in our half or full-day cooking class. Start the morning by exploring a local market where you will experience the hustle and bustle and absorb the flavor of a typical Cambodian market, and return to kickoff your culinary experience.
I'll be the first to state that I'm not much of a cook, but I wanted to expand my horizons a little. I came across this listing for this amazing cooking class. Chef Nalinh Ou was so patient, so kind, and so helpful in helping me find my "inner chef." She was just so wonderful and the items she helped me produce were well beyond anything I would have imagined I could have cooked. Fresh spring rolls, Khmer yellow curry, and banana palm were the three courses I was able to produce, and with wonderfully surprising results. Thank you, Nalinh, and the rest of the staff, for showing me what is possible. As others have stated, this was such an amazingly positive experience!
