Bamboo Delight Cooking School and Restaurant

Our cooking school has been hosting food-loving visitors since March 2013, when we first opened our doors to visitors from all over the world. We believe the most delicious dishes are born out quality ingredients and we hope you will taste them with us.

It is always great to find somewhere on holiday where you can try your hand at creating some if the local dishes. It's even better when you know that you are supporting a very important community project as you enjoy the experience. The Bamboo Delight Cooking School provides a high quality service for tourists wanting to do something a bit different on their visit to Inle Lake and also provides a library and summer school for local children, using some of the income from the visitors to support this work. Well done Suu for your vision and commitment to the community you serve....and for helping us to cook delicious food.

We actually didn’t do the cooking classes, however, friends who had previously visited recommended contacting Min as he offers a lot of other activities around Inle. He organised everything from kayaking, biking, hiking, visiting the local floating village markets, meeting local families for the most amazing traditional lunch, meeting REAL fisherman (not just the fake ones you see in the insta photos). His wife cooked us lunch one of the days also beside the cookery school- which was amazing. He even arranged our airport transfers. He is a local man and his passion for the local area really comes across. More importantly though, his understanding of the fragility of the lake and the environmental impacts climate change is having is really inspiring. I wish him and his wife every success for their business in the future!

Pennywort Cooking Class

We offer morning or afternoon cooking classes. The morning class starts at the New Bagan market at 07.30am where we browse and do some shopping the walk to my house for cooking and lunch. The afternoon class starts at my house at 3:30 pm and we chat, cook and enjoy dinner. Our aim is to introduce you not only to Myanmar food but also our culture, lifestyle and how food and dining is a key part of our social life. We are not professional chefs, we just love sharing food and stories with travellers. The class is at our house with local cooking equipment and traditional recipes- part of it is hands-on and part is demonstration. The menu includes soup, salad and main course. We do require advance bookings so that we can prepare. Please let us know your name, your hotel (in case we need to contact you) and any food allergies or dietary requirements. The class is 20 USD per person (Please note that we cannot accept credit cards!) which includes the class, all food and drinking water, tea and coffee. 20% of the tour price going to the Kuthodaw Library, a library we set up to promote reading to the young people in our neighbourhood. We do hope you will come cook with us! Please let me know if you have further questions. Thank you, Maythu

May's cooking class has been a highlight of my time in Myanmar. I have done it twice, in the morning and the afternoon and loved them both. May's is a wonderful host and the experience is incredibly authentic and warm. The food is excellent, varied and fine for both vegan and vegetarians. May also shares the recipes with you via email which is great! Visiting the markets in the morning tour is a rare insight into the local life in Bagan, and shouldn't be missed. If you can, bring along children's books to donate to May's community library.

Sa Ba Street Food Tours

Our Yangon walking food tours, trishaw tours & cooking classes are a fresh look at Yangon's traditional food for the culinary and culturally curious traveller. We love food & proud to share what Yangon has to offer. We started these food tours in early 2017 because too many visitors miss out on this mostly undiscovered side of Yangon life. Eating a huge variety of dishes at safe, handpicked vendors, passing through fascinating neighborhoods & side-streets, sharing, eating & chatting about life in Yangon. It's an honest introduction to the food but also our culture & past. All tours also include a street market so we can show what goes into your dishes & what some locals put into theirs. Aimed at those who use food to explore the places they visit & encounter the real people of the land. Our Yangon street food tours show you our favourite side of Yangon by eating good food and broadening your understanding of a unique food scene and unique city. By the way, "sa ba" means "eat please"!
