We'll begin our visit of the famous Sassi, a maze of cave dwellings that cover the lower part of this incredible city, which has been named the European Capital of Culture for 2019. Matera is a city perched not only on top of these incredible cave dwellings, but also above a dramatic ravine, with sweeping views over the landscape. Although there are buildings in ruins still, the city is vibrant with life and culture as many structures have been restored into beautiful cave hotels and restaurants. The time spent in Matera will be a walking tour with stops at Museo Casa Grotta, a renovated cave with period artifacts that gives the visitor a great sense of what life was like before its citizens were relocated out of the Sassi in the 1950s. We will also visit the beautiful Chiesa di Santa Lucia & the famous Santa Maria De Idris. We can enjoy an optional 3-course lunch at Falco Grillaio with local award-winning wine.
Inclusions: Lunch, Driver/guide, Local guide, Coffee break, Hotel pickup and drop-off, Walking tour of Matera, Transport by private vehicle
Exclusions: Gratuities
Giovanni and his team created a wonderful experience for my clients on retreat in Puglia. Learning to make pasta by hand and then being served the most delicious lunch was a highlight. More so the way Giovanni took care of us was so personal, we got an authentic Italian experience with a local Italian! He made us all feel very at home , this added value he especially for my American clients who were visiting Puglia for the first time. I will be hiring Green Italy Tours for future retreats knowing I can trust the level of care and connection on offer. An insiders experience of Puglia, what more to ask for!
