We enjoyed the informative tour from our tour guide Holger as he walked us through the town center, city square to see the town that was rebuilt after WWII. We also visited the castle where Potsdam conference was held where US, Soviet and UK leaders decided on dropping the atomic bomb in Japan in 1945. Our visit ended at the Bridge of Spies which was featured in a movie by Tom Hanks! It was a very well presented tour and we had a wonderful time!

What a fantastic introduction to Berlin. Our guide, Irish Paul, kept the tour to our pace and tailored it to our interests. We finished the tour with a greater knowledge and understanding of prewar Berlin and the city we see today. Berlin is actually not attractive. It is grungy and graffitied. Paul took us through areas of the city that had such compelling history that we were able to see Berlin in a new light which put everything we saw into perspective. Highly recommended tour.

First of all, a bit about our guide, Paul. He was incredible. Full of information, including history leading up to the war, and spent time on the journey telling us the background and showing things of interest. He could answer every question, and was obviously passionate about history and the area. He actually made our visit, and for that we cannot thank him enough. From purchasing the tickets to meeting our guide to getting back to our hotel, the process was easy. The journey is long on the train, followed by a 15 minute walk to Sachsenhausen, so be aware of that. The actual place - I don’t think I can put into words what it was like. The thought of being there, and hearing and imagining what the prisoners went through, was humbling, and made us reflect on how lucky we are. We didn’t take photos, as did not feel it was right to do so (our personal view), and we were also so busy listening to Paul we didn’t really think about taking any. There is a café- we thought there wasn’t so took some lunch with us, but would eat at the café if we returned as it looked nice food (soup/sandwiches/cake) and was reasonably priced. The biggest advice we would give is take a coat, even if it is not particularly cold. The wind across the open space was biting at times. We would say this is an unmissable trip, and be prepared to be moved. And ask for Paul - you won’t be disappointed.

Your guide and driver Holger was born in Potsdam. He offers an authentic insight in the history of Potsdam. The former Prussian residential town became one of the focal points in the Cold War. The Potsdam Conference from 1945 paved the way for the Cold War. Potsdam was one of the most important Soviet bases in the GDR. The bridge of spies connecting Potsdam with West Berlin was a symbol for the seperation of Germany.

We were all interested in this tour but hesitant due to its nature. So glad we did it as our guide for the day was amazing & put us all at ease from the start. Chaperoned is on all trains. Paul was friendly patient & very knowledgeable on all things German, even giving us a in depth history lesson into Germany as a whole. The camp itself was a sinister and formidable place due to it use,it also rained in the morning, not hard or cold but this added to the sad surrounding we were in. So many interesting facts & stories. We were very humbled & will be forever grateful & in debt to all who suffered & gave their lives here. It was good to pay our respects to all. We would not return but would definitely recommend this tour. Thanks to Paul for sharing his vast knowledge & spending the day with us..Much appreciated. He is a great asset to the Berlin tours. Keep up the great work Paul for passing on this important historical information so ours & future generations do not forget. Regards Jon Hayley Steve Anna Cheltenham Gloucestershire UK

Xavier was our guide, and he gave an excellent tour! After condensing centuries of German history into a digestible summary, he showed us the major highlights of the city, relating them back to the history, and peppering in fun facts and anecdotes. He was approachable and friendly; we felt comfortable asking many questions and he had thoughtful answers. The depth of his knowledge of Germany history was impressive and we all learned a great deal. Moreover, he struck the right balance when switching back and forth between the glamorous and not-so-glamorous parts of Berlin history; no easy feat. With no reservation, I can say it wqs the best historical tour that I have taken in any city.
