This church is a part of Franciscan monastery. It was built between 1712 and 1721 in baroque style. It has a valuable illusionist fresque representing the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary painted by Slovenian Franjo Jelovšek in 1752.
This church is one of the oldest and most important preserved medieval buildings in the whole region. It is known for a beautiful fresco paintings, old gothic ribs in the sanctuary and one of the most beautiful Mannerist altars in the northwestern Croatia. Frescoes of high quality making and motifs of Passion (Passion of Christ), are the only such example in the northern Croatia.
The famous chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary Snow in Volavje is surrounded by a stone fence with a Baroque portal from the 1732. The statue of Mary with Child dating from 17th century is highly revered. The whole complex stands out with its exceptional shaping and masses encroachment, rich equipment and details of masonry work.
